OK I have a couple of questions. I have been freezing for the past few months in Oklahoma's odd weather. Well As I was griping to Brian at eh Scottsdale store on Tuesday about the head unit replacement and the price, My car was warming up. I never warm my car up. Well when I went down to the car, and turned on the heater, it worked. I have been so happy for a week now. Yes the display goes in and out here and there, but the car is heated nonetheless, but now no matter what temp I put it at, it still blows hot air so I keep it at 85. I made a second phonecall to Joe. He tells me that it might not be the doors in the dash afterall. It might not even be the head unit. It was stated that it could be the sensor in the dashboard on the left and right side of the steering wheel. I had always thought they were little speaker vents. Aparently the one on the right, connected to the rear defrost button has a sensor with a wire connected to it inside that could be faulty. The other vent has some kind of tubing that sucks in air to adjust the temp. I know of the head unit testing whe yuo hold the off button and turn the car to on, but I do not know what all of the numbers mean except #5 when you can adjust the heat plus or minus 6 degrees. If any of you have any clues to this before shell out $500 on an AC Head unit or $29 for a senor, please respond. Fred have you not ever had this issue...of course not. Q45Tech.....????:help

Sorry about the confusion there Fred, but I know how you are about your car. I was just wondering if you have run into this problem before or knew someone that had. Thanks again!!!!

I always thought those little grills were for an optional hands off cell phone system. Learn something every day!

The left side of the steering wheel is the cellphone microphone, the right side is the return sample vent for HVAC [called in vehicle sensor........which draws are in via the aspirator on heater core] but there are water temp sensor [measures water in heater core] and intake sensor [measures floor return air] via the evaporator

If you set temp at 85F and force system out of automatic by manually setting fan speed high the sensor do little assumming the heater core coolant temp sensor is reading above 90F after 90 seconds .

Do you have the factory manual? It gives all of the codes for the climate control... if not I'll try to look them up for you when I have more time. It's a pretty in-depth procedure, so you might see if Brian can fax those pages to you - I know TJ used to do that from time to time.

I wish I did have the manual Heath. I have been freezing for months now. I would sure appreciate it if you could email those pages to me. I would be enternally gratefull. So Q45tech, you are saying that it would do liitle to no good to replace that sensor in the dash? Are you saying that there is an issue with my heater core or tere could be an issue with my head unit. I have often learned about this car that when a problem seems big, it usually tends to be small and vise versa. I just yearn for a regular temp control and lights just like everybody else. Besides, I have gone to Radio Shack to find the bulbs for my head unit and no one seems to have them yet I hear that here in the forums everybody has them. Is there a model number I should look for? Thanks in advance,

Marlon, no longer freezing, but for how long.

I am saying the built in diagnostics are good and should be utilized. And without a working display you have to spend hours and hours and hours accessing each sensor to do what the diagnostics does in 5 minutes.

It seems impossible to me to own any old lux car of any make without a shop manual.

I actually wired up a hands free system to that mic.. If I recall it terminates in the trunk on the left side. (For the 'factory phone'.. just FYI there are a bunch of wires from their up to the center console, iff anyone is looking to connect stuff up.

Never got an interface to the Bose speakers to 'automatically mute the audio and patch the cellphone audio into the speakers'...

Everytime some one brings up a new topic my Q seems to hear about it. My HVAC fan motor is now worn out [at 240k] I guess it's time for a change. It sometimes needs a smack to start rotating.......worn spot on the commutator.......probably over 7,000 hours of use in 4000 average days........averaging 34 mph [?]

Just try to calculate how often each fuel injector operates in 7,000 running hours at an average 1200 rpm [600 times per minute] 36,000 times per hour.... 36 million x 7= 252 million cycles.........each one has squirted more than 1600 gallons of fuel.

1200 rpm AVERAGE is probably unrealistically slow since the IAC tends to keep it higher on decelerations and accelerations thru gears typically hit 3,000 or more..........probably 1,500 rpm would be a better real average.......300 million cycles?

Sprry to Hear about that Q45tech. You know I really do rely on your brain. I will however halt the comment for my sunroof until I check back here in a day or so to see how yours is. But I will say the drivers side won't move back and fowards.

That's ok mine leaks even after a new [$150] gasket . Already been thru that [broken cables in 1999].

Based on buying new parts from the dealer a 90-93 Q would cost around $95,000 to totally rebuild with a $70/hr tech.

Then there is a $8,000 paint job!

Any idea how many coats of primer/pigment/clearcoat went on the early Qs? Based on bare metal rock chips, the entire coating looks to be about .010-.015 thick. Sure beats my father's '95 Hyundai. I think there is 1 coat of each. If you leave a bird dropping on the car for more than a day and then wash it off, the paint comes off, leaving bare primer. I am NOT making this up.
