In the next two weeks, ill b pulling down my mani and turbo to look for an exhaust leak but i figure since its off, y not get it coated. I hear good things and bad things about this but information is kinda limited when i ran a search. Not to many people do it with the KA-T's but i was wondering if it is worth it and if so, where to get it done here in south florida?

you dont like the finish thats there now? im sure you could cover it in some heat wrap to keep the degrees down. i could sandblast it for you but that could leave open the possibility for rust.

The hi temp paint is just a paint that wont boil and flake off at higher temps so it lasts longer. not much heat reduction is being done with that on there. unless ya know something i dont.

ceramic coating would be the most durable for sure. i have a friend that painted his manifold with 1500 deg. barbeque grille paint and it has held up. i think VHT makes 1500 deg. durable paint but dont quote me on it holding up. just not sure.

so bbq paint huh? lol. i guess it could work but it really only comes in one color. as for the sandblast thing, how big of an issue would rust be? also besides ur atp wrap klattr, is there any other exhaust heat wrap?

Thermotech makes heat wrap, you can buy it at http://www.summitracing.com It retains heat in the manifold long after you shut the car down however, and can cause premature failure, depending on your header. For heat reduction on headers, ceramic coating is the way to go. Check out swain tech or performance coatings. Both of them do it for around $130.

i guess the next question is if u have used any of these? im leaning more towards performance coatings as the swaintech is kindasorta like a thermal wrap. Not to mention that it is white and u know how grease loves white colored objects. so if yall had to choose b/w these two, who would it be?

Swain tech is not like thermal wrap, its a ceramic coating like performance coatings. I have the performance coatings titanium satin finish on my manifold right now. So far its holding up well, no flaking or peeling, but Ive only been running it for about 3 weeks. I got it for performance, not look purposes. With the claimed reduction in underhood temperatures, I am hoping to extend the life of the manifold and my motor/underhood components. The manifold still gets freaking hot however. Had to do all over again, I would go with the swain tech coating. Ive heard nothing but good things about them, even if there coating is white. The prices are about the same. Another big reason why I went with performance is that they are right down the street from me, so no shipping.

i would also be doin it for performance purposes, but i figure it wouldnt hurt for it to look somewhat normal. But if the swaintech is what u wouldve done had u had to do it over, i may go with swaintech. out of curiosity, what boost level are u running bluebottle? and do u autocross or do anything that causes out of the normal high temps? i ask only cuz if u do, that could still explain the mani still get ridiculously hot.

BTW, Shipping is a big factor for me tho as i am in fl. I dont blame u for goin with performance to do it.

I don't autocross or do anything crazy, like i said before, Ive only been running turbo'd for about 3 weeks now. I'm running 7-8 psi, but I just got my mbc today, so I will be going to 10psi tomorrow. Even under normal driving with no boost, it still gets pretty hot. I'd hate to see it with no ceramic coating at all! I guess a large reduction in temp is a bit much to ask from a coating only .015 mils thick, ha ha. I was gonna get some stuff done by Jet hot, heard good things about them as well. There prices are a little higher, if I recall correctly.

i think its lookin like jet hot might win me over. they are in mississippi so they are the closest to florida. They quoted me 130 and they are gonna send me a info packet so that i can read up b/f i make the decision. I would be goin with the jet2000 coat tho, not the sterling. Sterling is only good to 1300F while the jet2000 is good to about 2500F. Plus, who's ever seen a chrome cast iron turbo mani for the KA? lol.
