I have a koyo radiator with Prestone 50/50 coolant. Day or night when I drive up any hill for a minute or more the stock temp gauge starts going up. I know the drain plug leaks coolant a drop at a time every minute or so after parking when I get home wherever I go anytime. I also know the waterpump was replaced just a few months before I bought it from the previous owner about 3 months ago as well. Compression is 150 straight across on all four cylinders. I also replaced the radiator cap as it was no good anymore. Only happens when I go uphill. This is all on an s13 black top sr20 in s13 fb.

don't drive up a hill....

sorry had to do that, are you low on coolant? My only thought would be that you might have a bubble in your system.

then you have an AWESOME radiator. The factory thermostat is supposed to open at 195f so if its running at 175-185 then something is just sweet. 200 is no big deal for you.

Fix your drain plug also.

Just got the drain plug fixed yesterday after I posted this problem. It looks like it may be the thermostat as it only happens under load. I've bled the cooling system 4 times the past two weeks even with the small leak before and no air bubbles to be found. Not low on coolant either as I check it every day. I just drove it in 110+ degrees today coming back home from work and it drives fine. Haven't tried uphill yet, but it's guaranteed that the temp will climb up fast.
