temp gauge working in reverse?

ok, tried to do searches and such on here and the internet and i'm not finding any clues.

to start off, it seems i'm having battery issues but i noticed something while trying to drive my car (94 J30t) after getting it jumped. my temp gauge has been around the middle for the few days i've owned the car. yesterday, while i was trying to get home, the needle on the gauge started going toward the Cold line while i was driving. as a car does when it's overheating, it started to stutter and lose power, but the needle was indicating a very cold engine instead of a overheating one.

has anyone experienced this?

To me it sounds like you are completely out of water, the gauge operates improperly because it is reading only air, you are overheating.
