Temp Gauge Question...?

I have a 96' 240SX SE and my temp gauge goes up and down, It reads around normal when my foot is off the gas or when i'm in park, but as soon as you give it gas it drops straight to the bottom like it's cold. It's been like this since I bought the car. Any ideas..?

The ground on the sensor isnt perfect. Mine did this for a while. I learned that if u jiggle the connector it alleviates the problem for a few months. Ive since bought a new one for the built motor and so far it doesnt budge.~Sam

I had my check engine light scanned and it said the temp switch was not working along with knock sensor and cam alignment. so I replaced the temp sensor since it was the cheapest, cost me around $8 and that fixed the gauge, and the check engine light went off. Thanks for the advice
