temp gauge pegs when i push the brake pedal?

my temp gauge acts erraticly when driving and when i push the brake pedal it will peg hot, anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
its a 90 hatchback with a 91 dual cam swap.

Check the temp sensor connection.
The temp sensor is usually red and it is connected at the front of the manifold, right by the coolant hose.

i have checked both connections, the first thing i suspected was a loose or damaged plug. im pretty sure the smaller black plug is the one that runs the temp gauge.
