A couple of days ago, I noticed my 203 Spec V was running a little w=hotter than normal, then I saw the temp gauge fluctuating up and down, but then it would go back to normal. Yesterday the temp gauge spiked up 3/4 of the way. Could this be an electrical issue? Fans are working fine, thermostat seems like it could be the main reason or could it be a faulty temp gauge? Thanks in advance!

Probably the temp sending unit or the ECU.

Do you mean the coolant temp sensor? If so, wouldn't that set off the MIL? Thanks for feedback!

Coolant temp sensor doesn't throw the SES, or at least mine didn't, even though it will show a code when read.

That said, probably not the issue. Does it seem to sink under any particular condition or just bounce around at random?

Could be the gauge multimeter (don't remember the exact name, but basically it translates the signals from sensors to the gauges) or the ECU.

the needle would stay at about half way on the gauge (normally it'll be at 1/4) then I'll notice it'll bounce around a little and then climb up steadily, or just shoot up.

so I disconnected the battery for approximately 2 days. when i connected it yesterday and started her up, the needle stayed at normal range the whole time. I had it on and accelerated for approx 40 min, even with the a/c on and the needle didn't budge.

Well, wait and see if it crops up again.

There's a test you can do to check to make sure the gauge is accurate. Run a search, I know it was posted by a Tech in a thread of mine in the Nissan Online Mechanic section.
