It could be the single electrical connection on your engine temp gauge sensor. There is a temp sensor with a 2 connection plug(that one goes to the ECM), and a second temp sensor that goes to your temp gauge with a single electrical contact. Find that one and make sure the connector is on tight and there is a clean electrical connection. It could be at 3k and above the engine vibrates in a certain way to loosen the electrical connection.
