Temp and Fuel gauge

I have a 1984 Nissan King Cab Z24. The temp and fuel gauges are giving me problems. They will work for maybe a day or 2. Then at the same time they will both stop working for a up to a month. Recently, when my heater was not working its ground wire needed work, and now with a little bump to it it will turn on. I realize I probably need a new heater, but was wondering if maybe the ground wire could be the problem with the gauges.

It could be. A lot of electrical issues are due to poor grounds. While you're at it, upgrade the battery ground.

The grounds are a good place to start. But remember the age of these vehicles. It could also be a short but the best place to start is the grounds. Clean as many as you can.
