Many of you probably have had some one that helped you installing your first coilover or any other types of dampers. I won't have that kind of luxury. I have to do it by myself.I am gathering some step by step info on coilover installs. But I would like to hear your experiences with coilover installs. Particularly unexpected problems you faced like fitment issues, dremmel probles... etc.

The fronts are extremely easy..

Just loosen the bolts in the engine bay strut top locations.(3 on left 3 on right)

Then disconnect the spindle from the stock shock. And out with the old.

Same for rear. Except, the shock goes through the upper control arm.

It's not that hard. Just try it out at least. Make sure you have power lube or Beadblaster handy to help the bolts come off if you have problems.

yeah its really easy.. the only problem i ran into was that the coilovers wouldnt line up with the brakes to bolt the fronts back on cause the coilovers are smaller... so i just put a jack under the brake assembly and started jackin it up til it lined up

DO NOT loosen the center nut at the upper strut mount. Unless you want a mouth full of coil spring and a vacation in the ER.

Center bolt? You meant the one of the three bolts on the strut top in the engine bay?

How do I take the old damper out without loosening it ?

There's a nut holding the part that has the 3 bolts pokin out of it. You undo that, the spring will make the strut shoot down and you'll be in for a hell of an injury. Undo the top 3 (looks like points of a triangle) and the bottom two at the knuckle. Undo the brake line and the fronts will come off. The rear has two at the top that are inline (the center one is again for the spring thing and will take you out pretty quick). undo the brake line clip and the bolt at the bottom and pull out the strut.

If you do decide you want to undo the center nut that Scott was kind enough to warn against removing, remember to use spring compressors and to have the spring compressors in place with some tension on it. Wear eye protection and gloves before tying to undo this nut if you're on stock springs especially.
