Tonight I bought an s13 that is a project car. The head is brian crower??? head and had no miles on it, but the other parts of the motor have 90k on them. Driving it home, the oil light starts coming on and off so I stop and turn the car off.

I notice the top half of the motor is smoking but it runs so I let it cool down and get back on the road. About 15 miles up the road it starts it again so I pull over asap and have it towed home. It cranks, but runs like s***...the guy I bought it.from said he replaced the gears on the oil pump when he put the head on the motor. What could be causing this? Please GOD.help me out, I'm afraid i'm out 900 bucks plus the $125 to have it towed home.

A plethora of things could be wrong, how was the oil level when you left/got home?

If your oil light came on, you shouldn't have tried to drive it again without checking the oil level and filling up as needed.

You should fill up on oil again, but this might happen again because the oil pump might not be working.

Only way I can think of on checking the oil pressure is installing an oil pressure gauge.

I changed the oil in the guys yard before I drove home but didnt change the filter. So maybe its a clogged filter? it ran fine at 70mph on the interstate for about 20 or so miles before it acted up.

It's possible.
You could change the oil filter and see if it helps.

the guy just finished putting the head on the day before I bought it, it was one of those first come first takes the car. I wish I wouldnt have been first. He's sending me an oil pump in the mail tomorrow because I threatned to show back to his house with some friends and guns. lol, but still, im probably screwed. How difficult is DIY changing an oil pump?

p.s. thanks for the replies

so I changed the oil filter and it ran much better so I decided to drive it up the road. I gave it some gas and I heard a LOUD pop and the car shuts off. I coast to a stopping point, lift the.hood and everything seems ok...i look under the car and its pouring oil out of the oil pan through a dime sized hole

:werd:

Anyways, that pop you heard was probably a piece of your engine flying out the oilpan.

Karmas a b**** huh?

This is full of wrong, how will anyone learn if they don't start somewhere?

I bought my first 240, wrecked, and the only thing I had ever done on a car before was change the tire and oil.

However this guy is an idiot with is gun/friends comment....we need less people like you in the world.

You should probably send the oil pump back to the dude so he can get a refund now.

You probably did a lot of damage driving it before, and that loud "pop" was just the damage rearing its ugly head. Possible broken timing chain, threw a rod, etc. Anyway, whenever something dislodges itself from your engine with enough velocity to punch through the oil pan, you can pretty much bet on the fact that your engine is forever f*** and you should just move on.

all of you smart asses can kiss my d!ck. i'm sry I felt ripped off and demanded a replacement part. anyways, I threw a rod...got a scrap yard coming to tow it and give me $300. so this lesson only cost $725. at least it wasnt a DUI or something serious. no big deal, but you people need to stop making sarcastic comments just to up your thread count...its sad.

kind of same happened to me. Bought my coupe with an s14 engine after a month it threw a rod! did i give up...no. I swapped an s13 engine back in and its running again. Why sell it for 300 when you can part it out and maybe make more money out of it.Or better yet fix it again!!!

congrats on your purchase. Dont give up. If it wasnt this then would be something else. Its part of owning a 240 and a 15-20 year old car. Dont worry about people with non helpful opinion's, they were born with total a understanding of all. Dont sell it, you may need the parts for the next one.

this has turned me away from 240's for awhile...but it also lead me to getting a certificate or associates degree in automotive mechanics. I want to be able to do my own work on cars. once I finish that, i'm buying another 240.

im sorry that you feel we can all kiss your d!ck, but what do you expect. It sounds like you don't know what you're doing and drove the car when it shouldn't have been driven, then you tell us you threatened him physically to replace a part when he is not known for sure to be at fault for the condition of the car. You're the one that asked if you were an idiot, we're just answering the question....

once again, white comet feels the need to add another pointless post with absolutely no help just to inch towards that 20k post. Congrats, 930 pointless replies to go.

This thread is going nowhere fast. These guys REALLY aren't being that mean to you, just telling you that you were out of line threatening the dude, and now you're getting mad. Cool down dude.
