Only reason I ask, is becaue I have little suspension knowledge, and I'm intrigued by Tein's EDFC controller, and saw that the only way it would fit on an S13 240sx is with the Type Flex coilovers. Does anyone have direct experience with these coilovers or the edfc, and if you don't like the type flex, what set-up would you suggest for beefing up the suspension in highly advanced preparation for an sr or ka-t? Sorry if I'm being a little general =P

ernie fixmer likes his on his s13.5 180sx I talked extensively to him at DA about them, the setup..he seemsto like them...

although I like ken gushi's HE's more, ernie says the flex's are more progressive...if that means anything to you(as far as losing grip)

"in prepearation for a SR or KA-T"...what the hell does the engine ahve to do with the suspension choice??!?!?!

read my sticky on "attention" and specify what your going to use the car for a bit more, please.

LoL sorry, I didn't mean to confound you with the engine statement, just stating one of the goals for the car...I want to get it to maybe 300 at the wheels with the forced induction engine, primarily for street use, though it may be able to see a couple track runs every ONCE in a while. Again, primarily street use.

EDFC is nice but it's just another luxury item... I personally can't quantify it in my mind because I have to actively change something in order for it to register in my mind.

Understandable, I'm still debating coilovers in the first place, if I don't go tein coils I'll go with a Toki/Eibach combo probably, though I'm not sure yet, I'm not going to do it quite yet.

Well what would you recommend guys- the car is not driven very much while I'm at school 9/12 months of the year. The times I do go out to drive, its normally for fun, and I want to become licensed to use a track up here in northern Virginia I've heard a great deal about, apparently they have a really sweet set-up, and I want to find out for myself. So is it worth it to get the coilovers, or should I just stick to shocks and springs? Heh sorry I really don't know much about suspension parts, I'm more of an audio guy =P

TEIN basics. or TEIN super street coils, stiff enough for some light "spirited" driving, better than stock..but not ungodly costly either..

otherwise, some nice springs and struts/shocks would work just fine :)-chet

i have tein basics, and for the price over springs/shocks they are sooo worth it. i absolutely love them. the ride isnt too harsh on the street, but gives you enough feedback during "spirited" driving. i would definately reccomend them..

If youre talkin about the FLEX, they're softer than the basics.

Basic specsRide height drop F=-1.8in, R=-2.2in.Spring Rate 335/335lbs/inch

FLEX specsRide height drop F=-1.3in, R=-1.6in.Spring Rate 280/224lbs/inch

the FLEX's also come with pillowmounts for a more direct feel. 16 way adjustable dampening, smoother adjustment over long term since the basics don't coat the threads for the adjuster with teflon which also reduces the chances of rust. The new perch design is alot better too.

The EDFC is cool and all but not really necessary. Seriously how hard is it to say to yourself "I think I'm going to the track today" and then go pop the hood and adjust the dampening harder. Unless you're into that street race thing where it's more like improv and you decide on the fly to gun it.

Between the shocks and the coils, the coils will grow with your skill as you progress in your driving career. The shocks will hit their limits pretty quickly leaving you SOL and you spending more in the long term.

Do the TEIN FLEX making noises when driving. The reason I ask is because some FLEXes on WRXs made some clunking noise toward the rear. I never followed up to see what was up with that....I ended up getting JIC FLTA2 for the rex.

Anyhow, I am in the market for an s14(cuz i wrecked the wrx) and I was looking to also get the FLEX cuz the whole EFDC too.

Anybody here seen or heard of this for the 240s?

The noise emits from the PBUs is kinda a thunk.

Tein needs to send over the Japanese spring rates... damn Americans need to stop *****ing about the rough ride.
