As some of you may remember, I recently hit a curb 2 weeks ago. Along with bending the lower control arm completely, I bent the tie rod slightly. Rather than just keeping the bent tie rod in place, i decided to upgrade to tein tie rods. I purchased them from Phase2motortrend.com where they were excellent with customer service and had the tie rods out to me to my door quickly and promptly. After the initial install it was apparent that the rods included only the hardware to increase steering wheel angle, but as I wanted the increased angle anyway; I used the spacer included. Immediately when i got back in the car it seemed the whole car changed. (at this point I advanced the timing 20 degrees from a 10 deg retard for a total of a 10 deg advancement.) The steering wheel was overall a lot tighter and more sensitive to the road. With turns the car seemed to predict where i wanted it to go and did it before hand. Turning seems much more tighter than stock and the whole suspension seems a lot more rigid as well.

the tie rods by me get a 9/10, 9/10 because the kit ddin't include the hardware to make the steering wheel angle like stock and only included the hardware for increased angle. Also the kit claims that it can't use stock out tie rod ends, when it seems that the outers are the same type of bushing. All in all a good package for those of whom bent their tie rods in an accident and wish to replace with an upgrade.

I totally agree. I have been really impressed with my Tein tie rods. If you want to make the steering angle staock, just use the stock washer thingy that is already on your car. Just make sure that you don't trash it when you are pulling off the stock inner rod. And for ~$150 they are a great upgrade.

They don't come with grease fittings though.

BTW, the outer tie rods can be replaced w/ any s14 outer tie rod. It's the diameter of the inner tie rod that increased.

I also do not fully understand what the steering angle is. Do you just mean the ratio of turns of the wheel is more precise or you just mean the angle at which you turn the wheel in relation to the wheels turnign has incraesed and made a "sharper, more precise" feel in the steering? Thanks for any input,

Austin

If there is any change in steering feel, it's because you're changing from 12+ year old ball joints and inner tie rods to brand new parts. The increased steering angle is nothing more than a spacer to allow you to cut your wheel more from lock to lock. It's supposed to be a drifter thing to allow more coutersteer while drifting. I purchased the Tein units b/c they are supposed to be pretty strong.

Is there another replaceable unit that is strong and can/will increase the feel more? I can understand why one would want more angle to use while sliding but its not a huge deal to me. I just got turned on to teh post cause I wouldn;t mind purchasing somethign to give my car a little more steering feel (not that its bad)...

Thanks Dori Dori

Cool, I feel good about my purchase now. I got the Tein rods for my 240 (which isn't driving yet).

Remove your power steering and get a Hicas rack are 2 ways.

You can also use Moog replacement inner tie rods and get these SPL tie rod ends (those are overkill for 99% of us IMO).

yeah, SPL or kazama make heim joint tie rod ends(good stuff!)

I'll probably be coupling those with the TEIN inner rods.-chet

Be sure to get them for an s14 (s13 outer tie rods won't fit on the Tein inner rods).
