Tein springs.....stupid question

OK, I'm about to install my springs and AGXs. These brown rubber pieces that go on the spring (there's 2 per spring), do I pull these off or not before I install? They don't look like they're doing anything...

OH, and the side of the spring with the coils closer together goes toward the top, right?

leave them on one for the top one for the bottom. and yes the coils closer together go topside.

I've never seen the Tein springs, but I'd imagine the rubber pieces keep the spring from making noise against the spring seats.
