the s.techs drop the car a decent amount, I doubt the stock shocks will last long with them. Even if they were new, i'd expect them to blow within a year. KYB AGX would be the way to go.

i never liked agx with s.tech, my friend had them, they seemed too stiff for such a soft spring, really bouncy ride imo, the car never really seemed to settle. maybe a tokico shock with them, or some other upgraded shock that isn't so stiff.

I'm gonna have to go with him on that one. you want a tokico blue, its cheap, like those lowering springs.

oh and re. the first post, stock shocks/struts are not designed for any kind of drop, which means there is essentially no dampning when fully compressed.hope you like riding on bump stops and blown shocks for a year or 2.

on a serious note, the tokico hp (blue) is about as cheap as you wannago. And I would look into B&G sport suspension springs, they are manufactured by lesjofors (which I understand to be a fairly largeeuropean suspension manufacturer). these springs use a progressive rateand have an excellent feel for a low cost, much better than S tech.here's a little info :

"B+G Springs: Drawing on over 150 years of spring design and manufacturing expertise, B&G S2 Sport Springs are engineered to improve handling while maintaining safety and ride quality. By redesigning the O.E. Spring and lowering the center of gravity from 1-2.5 inches (depending on vehicle and application) our technicians dramatically improved your vehicle’s performance and appearance. Incorporating a progressive rate design allow B+G springs to offer higher spring rates for improved road hold, while maintaining a comfortable ride for daily driving.

lowering applications from 1 to 2.5 inches progressive spring rate design to maintain ride quality while improving road feel and handling cold wound from high tensile chromium silicone wire individually super blocked and computer tested againist tight tolerances ISO9002, QS14001 and TUV Certified"

this is just 1 link I found where you can purchase them for a 240. http://www.autocarparts.com/part/960/227you may be able to find them for cheaper, I doubt it.I ran them on my FC rx7 when I was having budget issues and neededsomething cheap and effective, they turned out to be the best springsI've ever rode on.

Thanks for the replies! Micah I don't understand, do the B&G sell both springs AND shocks for $240? If it's only the springs that's a little pricey just for springs, the Tein's are only $150 and it would seem Tein would be better quality... well since they are Tein's If it comes with shocks and springs that's what I will be getting since it seems like a great deal, but the site only states for years 88-94 and mine is a 98?.....

Also anyone know how much tokico blue shocks usually sell for? And finally I know lots of people who always use stock shocks with aftermarket springs, which is why I was under the presumption it was ok. But on my GS I do have both aftermarket shocks and springs.

Thanks!

hi,

to answer your questions/address your concerns.

1. B&G manufactures coilovers, but as I stated, these which I am listing arejust spring sets.

2. If it seems a little expensive, shop around...I have faith in your ability todo a web search (I paid $195 for mine new, worth every penny).

3. Recognizing the brand name is not everything...I'm just gonna behonest with you, my experience with S tech tein springs is that they suck, just like the cheap versions of tein coilovers. I ran the B&G springsfor almost 2 years, right off the bat they settled properly, developed nospring sag or uneven corners, and most certainly did not suck.

4. tokico HP series (blue) will run you approximately 75-93 bucks eachdepending on distributor. say, $300 with tax for a set of new ones is agood price.

http://www.autocarparts.com/ca...nsionthere are spring sets for 95-99 models there (a link off the same page I already posted) at $224/set. like I said, if $200+ is "out of your price range"then do a web search and find a better deal.

I'm not talking **** but your friends don't know much about suspensionif lots of them are running stock shocks with drop springs. first off, the onlyway you could get away with it and have proper ride quality is if there wasonly like a half inch drop, thats about all stock shocks can compensate for...and they STILL won't preform well (average driving or sport driving), meanwhileyou're talking about something like a 1.5-2.5 inch drop...

just do your homework dude, you'll come up with the right answers

If he were looking to spend a little more money I'd reccomend the H&R's or rs*r on illumina's or the AGX's, his price range is more like $150 though,I've been there before, wouldn't wanna go back, but I feel him. he's gottalook at it like this though, for decent shocks and springs, he's at 500 with tax. good shocks and springs w/ camber plates or cheap (tanabe sustec, etc) coils 700-1000. Autozone gas shocks and cheap springs, still 350.

about progressive rates, don't knock it till you try it. works well in a daily driver kind of situation and still has a good handling feel when coupled with a decent dampner.

Be forewarned that Tokico (blues) suck balls. I put those on my car with Sprint Springs and they lasted all of about 8 months tops. Def go with KYB or Koni. Just my .02!

For about the same price just get a set of Ksport or Megan Coilovers. They run anywhere from $750-$900 depending on where you get them. My Tokico Blues and Sprint springs were around $680 if I remember correctly so for a couple more $$$ you can get something decent that you won't have to replace in 6 months.

your best option is like dd said, spend a couple more bucks now, save money in the long run. coilover type suspension will allow youto decide what kind of road input you want, it will also leave more room for compensation if your driving habits change.

Micah

btw, theres a guy in the classifieds selling K sports for $650 obo.

Hi guys,

I just picked up some 17" Hyper Gold Buddy Club P1-2s and have decided to just wait and order the Megan Racing Street Series Coilover Kit from Intense Motorsport for $865 shipped.

If I can find some cheap springs for like $100 bucks then I'll buy those and use them for several months.

Once again thanks!
