On teins website they say that the HE's

"Ft Wheel offset less than +38mm (6.5inch wide)"

I wanna use 40mm offset 7 inch wheels. Will that work? I'm kindof in the dark about exactially which direction offset is calculated from. I'm assuming that +38 means it's 38mm outside of the centerline of the wheel right? so +40 would give 2 more mm of clearance at the back?

Thanks

Actually it's the opposite way around. A +40 offset would be 2 mm closer to the strut housing/spring

OK but the wheel is much bigger around so it will pass the strut higher up right? Is there more clearance up there?

Basically what i'm asking is what offset should i be looking for? I looked at a wheel calculator and it said in order to get 7 inch wide wheels i'de have to get something like 32 offset. I can't find any wheels that size.

You probably already know this, but you can get spacers to give you the correct offset. The trick is to find a wheel close enough to the offset that you need, so that both the wheel and the spacer will fit on your stock studs.

spacers are kindof expensice though aren't they? I'de rather just buy wheels with the correct offset.

SCC talks about wheels fitting if they are 7.5 inches with a 38mm offset.

"Now that we've actually tried it, the 225/45ZR-17 Azenis Sport will fit in front with a 38mm offset wheel. We actually used a 43 offset Volk CE28 with a 5mm spacer. The spacer takes up 5mm of thread on the wheel studs, leaving only about four turns of thread engagement for the lug nuts. As a general rule, you should have at least one bolt's width of thread engagement (in the case of a Nissan 12x1.25 stud, that's 12mm, or 9.6 turns) and many sanctioning bodies require more. Nismo makes extra-long wheel studs that are available at any Nissan dealer.

We went through the spacer ordeal just so we could use the CE28. As a successor (but not a replacement) to the ubiquitous six-spoke Volk TE37, the CE28 is actually slightly lighter, uses strong, forged construction, and with the even rim support of its 10-spoke design, should be quite strong. The 17x7.5 inch size we used weighs only 14 lbs, and the quality of the finish is simply amazing."

The wheel i want to use are only 7 inches and half an inch is about 13 mm so thats 6 extra mm on both sides.

Doesn anyone actuially have tien HE's with some aftermarket wheel? I don't live near anywhere that has spacers avaliable.

so is my math right... they say that a 7.5 inch wide wheel will fit with a 5mm spacer and an offset of 43mm.

If i get a 7 inch wheel with a 42 offset i should pick up 6 mm of clearance just for wheel width. That takes care of the need for the spacer. My wheel and tire package should be 2 mm farther from the strut right?

Although I don't have direct experience with TEIN HE clearance's, different coilovers can require different offset requirements. Just an FYI, so don't trust what SCC said, since they were using JIC FLT-A2's (although its probably going to be a small difference, it can make the difference in touching or not).

Yah but that is the only source of information i can find.

USSil... if you follow the same path i did for the math your wheels should have 4 mm more clearance than SCC's wheels with out you using any spacers.

I did up a calculator based on 38mm with 6.5" wheels, but I really question if it is correct.

Basically I came up with6.5" = 38mm7.0" = 31mm7.5" = 25mm8.0" = 18mm8.5" = 12mm

Note that this was based on mathmatical calculations and not actual experience. Also keep in mind that this does not take into account if the wheel will clear the fenders.

This should help you out some. If you really have some question on what will and won't work, I would recommend calling Tein.

FYI I coresponded with Tien NA.

They said the stock wheels WILL fit. They also said that to run 42mm offset 7x17's i'll need a 15mm spacer.

I'll let you guys know how it goes once they arrive.

not without a spacer, and spacers are bad.

42 offset looks like crap anyway. Might as well get at least closer to the correct wheel offset if possible, at most a 5mm spacer. You've unleashed a beast with exar and spacers. Look at the dish on the Msports car he has in his sig. That's definitely not 42mm, and it sure looks good. I always love seeing that GTR spoke bend that helps clear the brakes. It's always nice to combine looks with function.

That car also has wide fenders... i can't afford to be doing that... What are the issues with a spacer? I was under the impression that if you get the extra long studa from NISMO it's just like having 15mm less offset.
