First off I have a 97 240. I have been looking around at buying a set of coilovers. I am a total noob when it comes to suspension. I don't track my car and it is a street driven stock slow daily. I couldn't decide on which i wanted or if i wanted to go new or used because of pricing. Well I came into a little bit of cash (my other car got rear ended) and I am ready to buy the 240 some parts. I found a set of tein basic coilovers used for 480. They are supposed to be in perfect shape w/ 4000 miles. Is this worth it and can i put these on with no other parts or am I asking for other stuff to fail? I need to buy struts anyway as I have a blown one. I am not looking to slam my car immediately as it is on factory sized 350z tires. I did search but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Matt

i like em, you can buy front camber plates for them too.

if someone says they suck, you must look at their car. i had them on my old track car (learn to drift car) and they sucked. then i built my latest track car with all new adj suspension on the car, and omg, they feel so good.

Tein basics would be great for a daily driven car...

however they usually don't come with front camber plates like most coilovers do. So you should probably keep that in mind.

why don't you go for KTS from SPL.... they have a rebuild policy on their coils.

I've always like the drop these give s14's... Nothing to extreme, rather classy actually. But the right set of springs will do the same for cheaper.

But there are other 'more bang for your buck' options out there.

What springs would those be? I never seen any springs that would drop a car for 2.5", maybe megans? (I think they max out at 1"8) The guy is getting them for $480, maybe even lower with negotiation so I don't think you'll find a set of springs for this much (unless they're used)

BTW I know the guy that you're looking to buy the coils from, and I've seen them, they're in excellent condition. The guy had it on his kouki before he wrecked it, they rode perfect.

I have tein basics and they are awesome, not too stiff not too soft just perfect, if you are looking for extreme slamming then they're obviously not for you, but if you have 17 to 18 in wheels (i got 18s) then they're perfect to get rid of the wheel gap and some more with fender work (I cant lower mine anymore due to tires rubbing)

I think I am going to hold out on them for now. I am going to wait untill I can afford all the suspension parts I want/need at once. Thanks for the input and these coilovers are on St. Louis Craigslist if anyone is interested.
