Tedious Scrolling Via Ipod Interface

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi all. I'm a new EX owner and new to the forum. So far I'm very happy with the car, but I've run into a challenge when using the iPod interface.

I often scroll through the list of artists on my iPod, looking for the one I'd like to listen to. On the iPod, the list accellerates as you scroll, eventually replacing artist names with letters of the alphabet. However, when accessing the iPod via EX's interface, I don't get the same functionality.

Not a big deal if you're looking for an artist early in the alphabet, but if you have a couple hundred artists and you're looking for an "V" name it takes a crazy number of twists of the navigating wheel on the dashboard or clicks of the steering wheel button to get there.

I thought of making A-C, D-E, etc. playlists to speed access, but then when you access those playlists, it simply becomes a list of songs and doesn't sort by artist.

I haven't found any refernces to this in the various forums on the web and the manual is pretty lean on the subject. Am I missing a feature that would allow me to zoom throug the artist list (or song list for that matter)? Alternatively, does anyone know of any clever work arounds I might try?

Thanks in advance.

The only solution I have found is, once I've selected to sort by artists, to simply use the joystick controller on the steering wheel and hold it down -keeping my eyes on the road with just brief glances to the nav screen to see how far it's scrolled- until I reach the desired artist.

Infiniti would have been clever to have included a "fast forward" feature on that joystick. Hold it down for 1-5 seconds and it scrolls one artist at a time. Once it has been held down continuously for more than 5 seconds it should scroll a full screen at a time (4-5 artists at a time). That would get us through the list much more quickly.

Maybe a future firmware update? I'd contact Infiniti about this but, frankly, they just don't strike me as a company that really cares about what the customer wants AFTER the purchase. I got a MUCH more warm and fuzzy feeling from Lexus during our Lexus ownership. And all of the Infiniti dealerships in my area PALE in comparison to even the weakest Lexus dealership in my area. I don't feel the slightest bit "pampered" when I visit my Infiniti dealership.

But that's a rant for another topic. Sorry!

Today's my three month anniversary and I'm lovin' my EX!!

I've been using the i-pod interface more during the past few weeks, since I got an i-phone that's with me all the time. I noticed this lack of FF last week when looking for a song that started with "W" while driving on a curvy highway. I thought I was missing something and needed to check the manual.

I guess I'll have to add this to my short list of things that could still be improved!

Yes, why don't you?! Such a thread was started by EXceptional zerothread/334417, but only 4 of us have contributed to it.

If you have the Navigation Package with the touchscreen you can scroll through pages of songs/artists, etc. by pressing the down button on the bottom right hand corner of the screen...this is quicker. Let me know if this helps.

I know that this is an ancient thread, but I found it via Google because I just bought an EX35 and noticed the same problem. My solution was to change the genre for each artist in iTunes to be the first letter of their name. I never used the genre label for anything anyways, but it is a setting that the stereo system recognizes. So now I search be genre rather than artist, and have a max of 26 letters to scroll through in order to then select the desired artist and album. This is the best solution I've figured out so far. It's not great if you want to scroll through artists trying to find something interesting, but it works well if you know what artist you want to listen to.
