is it true that intake and exhaust would cause me to loose hp

i will be getting a 03 soon and its completly stock touring besides the new clutch.....ive been researching and apparently if i added an intake and exhaust i would actually lose hp? if so would it be smarter to get a reflash before i start any mods ? im not sure if i believe it yet because my friend in his g has a xo2 exhaust and a intake and headers....he said he feels more power then stock but idk if thats just all the noise making it seem faster...

First : Intake+ exahust dont cause you to lose hp. (generally) and if you account for them via tune you will definelty see an increase.

Second: You reflash <after> your mods so the tune can account and tune for them.

Best to reflash while on a dyno w/ thjopse mods on, but if you send in your ECU to TS be sure to tell them your exact mods list so they can adjust ( which wont be quite as good as flashing on a dyno but but much better than stock).

definelty dont flash before your mods go on, it would be a wasted effort then, because youd just have to redo it.

You should have your car dynoed before you add the mods so you will see what your BASE line HP is.

Quoted for truth. Good advice from all. Also look into Osiris ECU flash at http://www.uprev.com/

I think it was an Sport Compact Car Power pages that showed a loss of top end hp after a cold air intake, plenum spacer, and full exhaust install. The final step was a dyno tune which then netted around 30whp.

Good reference and yes with the tune you realize the gains w/o atune they are not always useful.

freind of mine had a DB 04 and had headers, exhaust and CAI got 14hp/14 lbsft in the midranger after a reflash on the dyno
