You sure about that? It seems awfully heavy for having an aluminum body. Isn't curb weight something like 3800lbs?driverdriver wrote:The J already utilizes aluminum. Its built on a welded aluminum chassis and frame.
If I had a scanner that could scan the original sales brochure (I have J30 that's the size of Life magazine) I would post the body frame pic and the paragraph talking about welded aluminum.vishesh wrote:

The only possible explanation I can think of is that the gas company is adding some sort of additive to octane 87 and 93 fuel, it could be etnanol, tactrol, gas line antifreeze or even increased sulphur. It would make a difference in the fuel economy.robmcole wrote:Tell me if anyone can figure this one out.
87 Octane = 15mpg89 Octane = 17-18mpg93 Octane = 15mpg
Good Plugs, Replaced air filter, run 35 PSI in tires.
Really odd, and REALLY bad gas mileage.. I justify it by not having a car payment haha. I need to try a new O2 Sensor.

Actually it is great, you will look back at this when you are gettin 17mpg and wish you could have it again.vishesh wrote:Starting from a full tank, I drove 341 miles (two-day road-trip, mostly highway driving) and had to re-fill 15.775 gallons to get it back to full.
341 mi / 15.755 gal = 21.62 miles/gallon
Not great, seeing as how I was getting around 24mpg about the same time last year. Still not terrible though, given that the car is now 10 years old.
