Hey guys. I went to my mechanic over this weekend to flush my transmission on my 02 MAX. Now I purchased 15 quarts Matic D which is the recommended type. When I got there, he told me I need 18 Quarts instead of 15. Why? Because he told me that his machine, whicH is SNAP-ON MFX HD35 does not use American Quart measurement. I called the dealer and they told me If an Flushing, I only need 12 Quarts and If am draining, I only need 5 Quarts. Is my mechanic saying the TRUTH?

I'm not sure about the quart measurement...sounds a bit iffy to me.
However, for a proper "flush", more fluid than just total fill capacity is required. The point of a flush is to fully exchange ALL fluid in the transmission. In order to achieve this, you must have a fresh supply of fluid to move through the system until it is "clean" (or, at least, until you reach some very close approximation of clean).

The fluid capacity of your transmission (RE404FB) is 9 US quarts. At 50% flush allowance, 15 quarts should be enough. I have 97 & 99 I30s (RE404FA) and both of them have 10 quarts capacity. I used to bring 15 quarts to the shop for flush until I started doing the fluid replacement on my own.

The flush machine measures the amount being drained and provides a matching fluid replacement. Before the actual transmission flush, make sure the engine/transmission is warm and that the flush chemical has circulated in the transmission for at least 15 minutes. Try to look for another shop that has BG flush machine.
