Was having problem with the 1991 Q45 not starting acting flooded and posted in the Infiniti Online Mechanic. Or is this the place to post as I see alot of mechanical questions posted here?
Thanks

The engine could be flooded, especially if the last time you started it was in cold weather and only for a few seconds. Do you still have a strong battery? Try holding the gas pedal to the floor (ECU shuts off fuel flow) and turn over the engine for 30-45 seconds until it starts.

Thanks for the reply,
Does not seem to be firing at all is this normal? I mean do I crank it for 45 secs even if it sounds like nothing is combusting. It is so weird because the first evening after I finished the repair as I was cranking I noticed it would hit some when I pressed the gas pedal down and all the way down the RPMs soared but when I let off it died. This does mean I am getting some kind of spark right.. Today I attemped some starting fluid and vigourous cranking but nothing happened at all.

Do you know how to start in a flooded state?

Yes hold it down all the way and crank right.
Someone said crank 15 secs, wait 1 min, up to 5 times then rest it for 30 mins.
Just seems odd when i'm getting no firings at all that it will start but it will start right?
The motor is so quiet, or the starter is so strong, compared to other cars.
At this point I am wondering if the plugs need replaced .
Has a new 950CA Interstate battery on a smart charger so I will just keep cranking.
Is it possible that the old gas from sitting is causing issues there was hardly any if any in there.
Poured five gallons of fresh Shell premium and a bottle of Iso-HEET in for moisture.
Also noticed the security light would blink while cranking and one time it was solid. So I taped the hood ajar sensor down an have been locking and unlocking the car with the key at the drivers door each time. No security light at all now.
Thanks

Yes. Patience grasshopper. It may take up to 45 seconds to clear all the fuel out of the flooded cylinders. Hold the pedal to the floor and don't let off it or the starter. If it was a security issue I'm not sure that the starter would come on at all.

Mileage on your engine?
Was the car slow to accelerate before this?
How's your fuel pump?
Were you hearing any buzzing from the trunk before this happened?
Timing chain guides ever been replaced? What happens when you spray some starter fluid into the throttle body? Does the engine run for a few seconds?

No, very strong actually.

Okay I think and replaced fuel filter recently.

Has buzzed when starting as long as I have owned it 10000 miles over 5 years.

Not sure elwesso looked at it a few years ago and thought it was done
by the gasket condition and the transmission recall with spin-on filter had been done.

I got nothing when I did that i'm going to pull a plug next I think to see I have fire or puddles of gas or something. In another thread a guy said his compression went to 10% when the cylinders washed out with fuel. I was just expecteing to hear something combustion wise.
Thanks for the help.

UPDATE
Well took out a plug looks covered in carbon and reeks of gas. Seems to be sparking some so next I will replace all the plugs and give it a try. The plugs were Autolite double platinum I am not sure if they are a good quality.
I noticed when my lower injector o-ring started leaking my motor was getting all carboned up. When I started it a few days ago the plugs where relatively dry and sparked just enough to spin the motor once. Then when doused in gas they could spark no more ..completely fouled.

I'm a little late in looking but I noticed from your post in the Infiniti Online Mechanic forum I see that your repair was injector replacement...and now your plugs are fouled and soaked in fuel. Are you sure that all the FI are seated properly and not leaking through? It's time for a pressure check of the fuel rail. Also, don't use anything but the OEM NGK plugs. All others will cause problems.

Hi,
Well the plugs did it it now runs okay and I drove it around the block a few times. There is a miss I suspect one of the plugs are not firing so I am going to spend some time with the forums search. Maybe tracing it down from the ignitors if thst's possible. The car will not idle at all so I have to use my foot to keep it running. I had a problem in the past with the fast idle cam not releasing so I had to back off the adj. screw. Does the fast idle cam regulate the base idle also? There seems to be a drain on my battery ..twice when I took it out and got back my status screen said low battery condition. I have unhooked my ancient aftermarket stereo that came with the car in case. Really just hoping that the alternator has not failed while sitting. Since I now have a paranoia of leaky o-rings I will put my pressure gauge on the fuel rail first chance I get after fixing the miss.
