I got anti-freeze leaking from my oil pan. Right before it happened, I had no white smoke, it was easy to crank up, and no overheating. I dont think its my headgasket. It just runs out now, I havent crunk it up in about 3 weeks (of course). Is it that a my timing chain rubbed a hole in my water pump?

don't see how it could since chain is kept away from the block walls. Also, if it were able to rub up against the wall, you'd have bigger problems. Namely broken chain guides and chain that's stretched so much, you shoulda blown your motor.

More than likely it's head gasket. You may have a small minor leak where coolant has been able to seep into one of the oil passageways, but hasn't blown out into the combustion chamber yet.

So should I NOT do a timing chain job while my engine is apart? I would think I might as well since I have a little rattle at startup. I ordered the minor parts yet (about $40), but I havent ordered the other parts ($122).

So is it better that I found out like this rather than actually start having a failing headgasket and burning white smoke?

Im hoping after this my engine will be almost perfect. Timing chain job + 153 on all 4 cylinders from compression test + new headgasket + head gasket set.

A timing chain job (guide/tensioner/chain replacement) is crucial to ANY SOHC KA that has not had it done since it was manufactured. Do it at the first oppotunity you have. Usually People wait for the rattle. If you can do it before, you are better off. When your engine is apart is the perfect time to do it, because it's a pain in the butt to do it when everything is in the bay. Trust someone who's done it a few times

preventative maintenance is good maintenance. Go ahead and do the chain, you won't be sorry.

Especially because it's a PITA otherwise
