Post

A couple weeks ago I posted where My car would struggle to reach over 4000 rpms. Thanks to all you guys that problem was overcome. My timing was off.

I recently installed a MBC and was boosting up to 10psi. The car was running better than ever. Then That problem came back. I checked my timing and once again it was off. So I reset it unfortunately that didn't help.

It goes over 4000rpms but feels like it is sputtering to get there it dosen't get ther as smooth as it use to.

Would I need to advance or retard my timing??? or is there another problem causing this I am not aware of???

Any advice will help.

I checked my grounds and vacuum I have no leaks and there dosen't seem to be any ground cables disconected.

Have you checked the intercooling piping? If there is the smallest leak in the piping you will have a ruff start until around 4,000... Just a possiblilty

If your timing is off again, you may want to check reasons for it being off again, such as, the chain stretch(see if the pins are kinda bent or stretched) and tensonor/spring.

I think it went off becuse I didn't torque the bolts on properly I re did my timing and torqued them to spec. But it didn't fix my problem.

There dosen't seem to be any leaks in my ic. But ill keep checking.

I might just take you up on your offer S13240. But hopefully I'll figur this out and save muself some gas.

Is it possible for the prblem to be related to my spark plugs?? or anything else fuel filter maybe?? I'm stumped

going from 4000 and over the car starts hesetating and backfiring sort of sputtering

I checked my spark plugs they just looked worn like they could use a change but I doubt that is the problem.

I reach full bost during.

See if your ECU is throwing any codes.

If there are any codes they will be stored in the ecu's memory. You pull them just like you would normally. I believe there are also instructions for this in the faq.

How did you go about changing your timing? Your valve timing might be off or something. What fuel pump you running? My 89' stock KA used to fuel cut at 4000rpm anywhere after 3rd gear because of the ECU wasn't getting a speed signal. (the dreaded HUD).

I adjusted my timing through the CAS and Im using a Denso Supra MKIV fuel pump.

On my Stoich meter when it starts sputtering and back firing the led lights start moving toward lean but they dont get to the red just bounce from ideal to rich.

When you set your timing, did you disconnect the TPS?? You have to disconnect it to set your base timing....just a thought.

From what i've read about around here, you may have just answered your question. I would imagine that the stock sohc fuel pump is barely good enough for the stock 7 psi. Maybe by 4k rpm you're not getting enough fuel? I'd pick up an walbro anyway if you're boosting higher.

definitely go walbro 255lph High Flow... i have one and it works great, never ahd any problems with it. i boost fine all the way to ~6200rpm(anything more is past the efficiency range).

BUT i have heard that the walbros break sooner than, say a a Z32 TT pump would. problem with that is the Z32 supposedly makes alot of noise and costs alot more than a walbro would. So its up to you really what you want... but definitely upgrade that pump----> and DONT FORGET to get a new gasket for the fuel pump lid from nissan, its like 5.00 i think.
