In my research in makin my 99 maxima ES a rice burner, I ran into some troubles. First off found a cheaper JET ECU module to remap my stock ECU and boost power, but heard that this upgrade is a waste of money and is useless. Is there any ECU or computer module upgrades that anyone could recommend? Second, people are saying that putting a supercharger on instead of a turbo would be cheaper and easier to install than all the work that is required for a turbo. Supposedly this is a Stillen Supercharger and I have been to their site and others and have found their blowers but for new makes of the maxima and its counterparts. If a supercharger would be the overall cheaper alternative to a turbo, would anyone know of the kind of supercharger that would be able to go on my max? If anyone would know, this would be greatly appreciated so i can get my parts in the winter and that in the spring everything can be installed in time for summer.

Screw JET, they're crap unless it's a Chevy. Try Technosquare they make a decent reflash. http://www.technosquareinc.com/ However, don't reflash (chip up) your ECU untill you learn more about the supercharger/turbo. If you are DEFINITELY going to SC/TC your max, don't waste the $$$ on the ECU. The reflash changes the fuel/air maps and advances the timing. If you SC/TC, you will use aa AFC (air fuel controller) and need to retard the timing. Stillen no longer makes the SC for the 3.0 engine. Turbos are a lot of work and$$$ check out this thread: zerothread?id=199194

The Stillen kit used a centrifugal Vortech supercharger on a custom made adapter that Stillen produced along with a custom flashed ECU, and associated goodies. They were available in the the V1 and V2 configurations. The V2 was a more agressive tune than the V1.

The main problem you will run into is that the 99 ECU is different than the other 4th gen Maxima/I30s; and therefore your application becomes even more obscure.

Thanks for gettin back to me quickly on this issue. Found a few more things that might be an obstical in finally gettin down what I want to put under the hood. When mentioned the AFC and all would need to be retarded to get it to work properly, would other componenets need to be worked on in order to facilitate this issue? Also are S/C like turbos that u can use on most vehicles or S/C are specially made to fit one vehicle type and only one? Cuz I know of some turbos that are designed for low end boost(4-8psi) and was wondering if even at low boost settings over a short period of time if i would have to redo the internals and bulletproof my transmission an the like? Once again the knowledge of this matter is greatly appreciated

The stock internals of the motor and the manual trans (in your case since you have the Canadian version, it should have a VLSD) should be capable of handling the additional HP. The SC is not anything that you couldn't get from Vortech or any other SC manufacturer; it's the SC mounting plate that is custom to the Max/I30. If you go with a turbo, the exhaust piping for any 4th gen Max/I30 will work. The exhaust flange of the piping will be a determining factor as to what turbos you can use.
