Hey guys, I've read somewhere that if you turn the car on (not the engine, just everything else) three times (on off, on off, on off) and on again, it will be in a diagnostic mode, and it will apparently re-set all warning lights (air bag etc).

However, I tried this, and it didnt seem to do anything. The only reason I ask is that when I purchased the car the airbag light kept flashing, and was told that it was simply a sensor that had been bumped on the floor of the drivers side, and that it would need a simple reset. This 'simple' reset is going to cost about $300 for Nissan to check all the airbags and do a reset.

Do I fork out the money just to be safe or is there a way to just stop the light flashing. I am assuming that once reset, if there is a problem with the one of the airbags the light will come back on. If i'm right it seems like the much cheaper alternative....

Any suggestions?

Yes! Someone please assist with this question!!

I tried to do many variations on "SEARCH", but came up empty each time.

My woman drives our 2005 G35 Sport Coupe like a little old lady librarian 6 days a week except for Wednesdays when I take it to the local Infinion Dragstrip.Those that drive the 350Z's there have told me I need to clear the ECU so it can dump the main driver's gentle driving habits and start my practice runs fresh. I don't want to have to reset everything by disconecting the battery and pumping the brakes. Isn't there an set of instructions somewhere here on our board?????Any help???? NITRO

The instructions I was given from another forum was;

"Turn the car (not the engine) on, and turn it off quickly before all the warning/dash lights have a chance to turn off. Do this three times and the fourth time you will be in tech mode, which resets warnings and ECU etc. The next time you turn the car on, it will be back in user mode".

Or something to that description...

However, when I turn my car 'on', no warning lights on the dash come on, only when the engine is actually started. And I certainly don't want to turn my engine on and off 5 odd times just to see if this actually works.

If you have to reset your ecu you can just unplug your battery and press the pedal several times or do this.

So ECU rest will reset all warning lights?

If there is an issue with one of my airbags, I'm assuming the light will come back on?

So whats the correct procedure when unplugging the battery? The links ECU rest procedure sounds like a right pain in the ***.

Just unplug the negative lead on the battery and set it off to the side. Next, pump the brakes 10 times. Now, reconnect the Negative to the battery (make sure nothing is on and the doors are shut, or it will spark a bit). At this point the ECU should be reset.

If your airbag light comes back....and it probably will, take it to the dealer. Most likely the sensor will have to be replaced. Never trust what people say when you buy a car!!!!

If one were to follow the 'battery disconect' option, it will delete stereo, clock, presets, etc.

That's why I'm after the method to do it from the driver's seat. Thanks though! Nitro
