TEC3 and distributor block off plate

Since the TEC3 stand alone system is direct fire coil packs, I see no reason why I can't completely remove the distributor on a KA24DE engine and use some sort of block-off plate where it once sat. Has anyone ever done this? Can you think of any reason to keep all the distributor mess?? Sure would be nice to ditch that whole thing (last I checked a distributor with shaft weighed about 8 pounds....) Thoughts, opinions??
