look at the plugs where the igniter should go and see if they plug together , not all rb's use a igniter. and you are using a rb20 transmission? just saved yourself about a 100 or so pounds.

yea RB20 transmission also helps with using the stock driveshaft. save me some more money.

ok back to the igniter. i couldnt find any 2 plugs that go together that look like they run to where the igniter is mounted on the valve cover. i do have the 4 mounting holes on my valve cover. here is a pic of my wiring harness. i know its a long shot but if you can help let me know.

the upper section is what runs aroung the intake manifold around to the CAS.

The plug for the igniter is next to a purple plug, should be 4 plugs together if I remember correctly, it is a wide slender plug with 6 or 7 wires... The other end of the igniter goes to the coil harness, a short harness that runs from the igniter to all 6 coils and that is all it does.

Here is a pic of the igniter plug

Ignitor harness-Yellow plug goes to the ignitor, the long one goes to ground and the 6 bigger plugs go to the coils

Thanks Jon, i dont have a giant yellow plug that looks like that, even on the ignitor harness. mine is orange on the inside and a little rounder. has 6 wires.

i dont know what to think about this. could it be igniterless?

Here is the plug on the end of the engine harness

There is NO chance that your vehicle could not have an ignitor.

Here it is on the coil harness, this is the one that runs under the spark plug cover to each coil.

The Type II ignition system has no ignitor, the coil packs have the booster in them..Mack

Here are my pics, I am in the same boat as you, we got this one from Japan w/auto transmission. at this point, not sure what I am going to do, I have been trying to find a RB25 5spd transmission, if not I am going to use the R31 RB20 5spd in the yard. Although I have been told by several source the RB20 transmission will not hold power as well as the RB25 transmission.

Let me know when you start wiring up, I am curious to know what differences there will be between the 5spd and auto wiring. Also, are you using a 5spd ECU or an automatic?

first, mack, i love you. ;) ive been racking my BRAIN trying to figure this **** out. YAY!!! *hug* hehe

JCAP, you are right, the rb20 transmission dosent hold the power as well, it caps about 350-400 crank from what im told. and last i heard mckinney motorsports had a couple rb25 transmission's for about 1300$ but this was a few weeks ago. and for my wiring, im sending it to mckinney. i cant be down for 3 weeks trying to figure out the wiring. so the 300$ i was gonna spend on service manuals for wiring is going to mckinney and im just gonna say "**** it"

and this was brought up to me by a friend, is there a US equivilant for these ignitorless coil packs? in case one goes out?

thought venus will get you a manual transmission for free if you send in the auto transmission... just what ive heard havent done it personally.

That would be nice if you could just send in your auto transmission for a 5spd, I know they tried to sell me an auto transmission when we called looking for a transmission, but that was it. Sounds a little like just a "rumor" to me.

I am definitely doing my wiring myself with others' help at the shop, much better than sending it off. I already had a FSM for the s14 and now I have one for the R33, I am sure it will be helpful down the road other than wiring (i.e. internal specs, etc). I think I may stick with the RB20 transmission for now and hope for the best.
