Ok well i'm tearing down a spare KA24E motor that I aquired and have a few questions.

1. When I go to remove the timing chain, should I mark the placement of it if i'm going to replace it?

2. How do you remove the timing chain?

3. Is there anything else that I should mark before removing the head?

Thanks

hey man. have you done this before? do you have a spare engine in case you mess something up?

your best bet is to find an FSM and go through the procedure a few times before attempting anything. there is information that you need access to with diagrams and step-by-step guides that you wont be able to get anywhere else.

No, marking the old chain wont do any good for installing the new chain. Besides, once torn down, you can set the crank and cam to where you need them (top dead center) and install the chain.

Remove the cam sprocket with the chain attached (once the front cover is off, of course), then just take it off.

Not really. When reassembling it, you set everything up at TDC and line up all the matchmarks. Oil pump shaft lines up with the distributor, cam and crank are lined up at TDC. Really no worries. Only thing is keeping track of all the nuts and bolts, and maybe remembering what plug goes to what sensor. Maybe get some masking tape and mark each plug as you remove them to help u remember where it went. Otherwise, very straight forward.

thanks for the advice guys, know any place with a downloadable link for this motor?

And oh yeah I called my nissan dealership about a seal re-build kit and they had one remaining in stock somewhere in the country so i snatched it up. They only have 16 head re-build kits left also. Once they're gone there gone for good. Napa and Advance auto parts store also do not sell any kind of kit for the single over head cam.

Does cometic make a head gasket for the single cam?
