No, marking the old chain wont do any good for installing the new chain. Besides, once torn down, you can set the crank and cam to where you need them (top dead center) and install the chain.

Not really. When reassembling it, you set everything up at TDC and line up all the matchmarks. Oil pump shaft lines up with the distributor, cam and crank are lined up at TDC. Really no worries. Only thing is keeping track of all the nuts and bolts, and maybe remembering what plug goes to what sensor. Maybe get some masking tape and mark each plug as you remove them to help u remember where it went. Otherwise, very straight forward.
