So finally quiksilvia and his friend Andrew (300zx tt) convince me to get a nissan. It's not that they directly told me to get this one, but there undeniable truths about my other cars kept eating at my mind. So here's what's up.

I go to school at snap-on tools on a program they have for advanced driveability mechanics and smog techs. One of my classmates bring in this mid 70s mercedes. I ask him where he got it and tells me all about the WApool auto auctions.

http://www.wapool.com

So I thought why not just go down and take a look. They had an auction on sat the 24th and a preview of the cars on the 23rd. So I headed from class early on friday to check out the stock. While there were some A70 supras, hondas (woohoo so faaassst), and rx7 that I was looking at, I just couldn't stop leering at this 240.

The 240 has 131k miles on it. The A/c works, interior is good, all electrical system (defroster, emergencies, etc) all work. I inspected the engine the best I could without any tools and gave it a quick drive back and forth to check the ride. The only problem I could see was the massively horrid paint. So I went to the auction the next day and when the 240 came up I just left my hand up holding the number till people stopped bidding against me. I got it for $900. They smogged it and registered it for me so I didn't have to mess with anything but insurance.

After I bought it I was scheduled to take delivery that monday (yesterday). During lunch I ran down to rancho and picked it up and drove it straight into the bay at school and hooked up a scanner and vantage (snap-on diagnostic tools). I went straight to work and checked the systems. I checked the 02, alternator, MAF, TPS, etc and the all works within factory specs.

I went home and did the basic maintenance, new plugs, wires and brakes. The car runs almost flawlessly. I'm very happy with it!!:D :D :D

ANyway sorry for the long post, jsut wanted to share my happiness of my liberation from mitsubishi into this car. Now to go sport the trick paint and get the hunnies.

nice find. no rust? :)the way i see it, bad paint doesnt matter. if u want to go fast, it wont matter how u look. if u want to look good, u'll be repainting anyways (body kits, crummy 12 yr old paint color choices,,,)-Enzo

nope. no rust at all. Yea the paint didn't matter to me sicne I didn't like red anyways it was going to be changed. Next step is to pickup an S13 silvia front and make my car match my username (sil 80) and then paint it all. What color would you all suggest? I was thinking silver of some kind, but not set on it.

Great buy. Make sure you get rid of that stock spoiler before you get the car painted.

Ya spoilers are ugly on 240s. As well as the rust problem. A dark blue would look sweet.

if you still want that paint for a while, it's still salvageable for not a lot of money. Go here: http://www.240sx.org/faq/index.html and look at car care 101.

I kinda like the little lip wing. Thanks for the info on the paint restoration although I'm not too sure how its gonna work cause that isn't oxidization in the pics you see, that's ripped and flaking clear coat...then theres oxidization underneath that.

and this is a picture of what seems to always happen to my damn vr-4. This is a picture just as I'm hoisting the 2nd!! engine out of the car. Over the course of the next few months I'm putting everything back together with a new shortblock.

transmission....working....:rotflmao:yea right, I have to slide that into second like an old granny to get it not to grind. It's all gonna be new when everything goes back in, only way to get at LEAST 50k, im hoping out of the car before I move onto engine 4. It's all gonna cost $4,000 in parts not including the transmission to get it all done.

Congrats on hooking up such a great deal on a good car. I think you should paint it KG2G grey. It's a shade pretty much between gun metal and charcoal grey.

haha, my friend has a '95 VR-4 and he killed his 2nd gear the first time he went to the track. They are damn fast cars though.

PS, congrats on the 240, it won't whine about lousy transmission's like your 3kgt!

mitsubishi trannies == crap. My old 1G DSM burned through 1st and 2nd gear, and screwed the synchs up bad.

Even new modern Mitsus have problems. The evo burns it's OEM clutch out in no time if not taken care of properly

Congrats on the deal.

Only thing that sucks is that I see all these people saying they got 240sx's for under $1k, $500, etc., but I can never find deals like that

Everyone around here (south of Atlanta, GA) seems to want to charge $2500+ and a lot of automatics.

*sigh* Maybe one day....

Many times...one coat of the clearcoat may be coming off, and many tiomes the rest of the coats survive

those cars generally need a lot of work to get them back in a decent running shape. that's why they're called "fixer-uppers" :)

Nice car, and for $900, it's less than the cost of a new transmission for that 3kgt! :)But yeah, the KG2, or Charcoal Gray Metallic, is definetly my favorite 240 color (other than Midnight Black - 300zx color - :drooling).

Example of the KG2 paint (Nadine180's)

haha! nice find! can't really beat a good running car for 9 bills. Who needs paint, I bet you're lighter because you're missing so much of it.

BTW, I am going to attend those SnapOn schools you are going to. Hopefully end of March (the california air board basics class, or something) I got a question, to get into the smog tech program, do they need you to verify if you have been working as a mechanic somewhere already? or do they just take your word for it? I have many years of modifying and tuning cars (engine swaps, rebuilds, clutches, etc.etc., but no formal work for someone) Thanks.

p.s. You should get some altezza tailights, and clear corners next.

Welcome to joys of Nissan. I have complete confidence in my Nissan running, and i'm nearing on 222k miles, around the corner my friend has a 1g dsm and he's in debt from replacement engines. This is a non turbo regular DSM too. I dunno whats up with that. Don't sweat the paint, mines in about 3 different shades of grey and primer as we speak. People thinking your car is ugly is a good thing, nobody steals an ugly car. Paint it some hot color and you got everyones attention, cops, theives, chicks, you know.
