hey guys, I am currently preppin my s13 chassis for a swap, and I am pretty set on going rb. i'll be finishin the suspension this weekend, and start welding soon.

what do you guys look for in a source?do you recomend a reuild before the install?full clip or motorset?

i've been cheking a few different sources and just wanted to get feel for what you guys did before you made you decision.

thanks

Everything is based on your priorities. Factor these things in, probably in this order:

1) budget2) time frame3) skills- mechanical, electrical, fabrication

which RB were you looking into?

personally, i would get a clip to make sure things arent missing/damaged. clip really helps protect little things from breaking off. there are a lot of good REPUTABLE shops. venus-auto, dragdriftautox, etc. do some searching and read the shop reviews. i really think someone should write a sticky for shop reviews for this forum

Thanks for the reply gawdzilla.

right now my budget is sitting at about 7k w/ all my suspension uprgrades done. I know rebuild kit, intercooler, mount kit, injectors, extaust, dp,cams, turbo uprade, is going to kick a dent in the 7. But I will recover througout the summer/fall

I dont plan on making a purchase till jan/feb.

I have alot of experience on motor rebuilding (chevys) but I'm thinking this is whole new beast!

electrical I'll pay for!

I think I'm set on a rb25det

I'm also set on phase2 for all my swap needs (parts)

I have been reading alot of old posts tryin to get a gauge on j-spec.

I've learned where not to buy from! (I was a click away on ebay)

any thoughts on my budget? or my source plans?

I should be able to add another 4k by the end of the year.

thanks

7k can do it easily, but it might be close with the upgrades you want. If you are competent at ALL with wiring anything you should try to do it yourself its really not that hard if you do the research and have some help... but thats up to you

Many people complain about wiring jobs done by some shops. A DIY is the best way to go for that unless you know that the shop will put the effort into it for the money you are paying them. If you get a front clip then the wiring itself will be almost a straight swap from the front clip into your car with a few modifications.
