TDC Crankshaft position

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hello, I am new to working on Nissans and could use a little help.
I am replacing the timing chains on a 1999 Nissan Sentra GXE.
I bought it for my son with 175000 miles on it.
It has never had the power I thought it should, has felt like it was bogging down when pressing on the gas.
It now will not start, it has gas and spark, we ran a code check and got nothing.
I moved crank while watching the distributor and had way too much play.
I am changing the timing chains out.
I think it jumped a tooth.
I cannot get the chains on so that the marks match the pictures in the book.
I think the crankshaft is not in the correct position.
The pictures in the Hayes book show the crankshaft keyway at 12 oclock when in TDC.
Mine is not, it is about one link off from that.
Is the crankshaft supposed to have the keyway at 12 at TDC?

Thanks
