TCU upgrade in 94 J30 possible???

I know you can do an TCU upgrade in 90 to 93 Q transmiision to first gear start. Since the Q and J basicaaly share the same transmission, can I upgrade J's TCU?94 J

The Q and J transmissions are entirely different: R04R03A vs R04R01A..............The J unit is designed to handle 1/3 less torque 320 vs 225!

Your J should be starting in 1st gear from a dead stop.

mine doesnt always drop down to first gear at a stop, either.

manual says even at 1/8 throttle, it should be in 1st from 0-9mph.

looks like theres a transmission problem...

If I do a "rolling stop" and accelerate under a light throttle my J will stay in 2 gear. Seems like the transmission is built that way which isn't a bad thing in slippery conditions.
