Ok, so I'm in the process of swapping a VH45DE into a Datsun 240z and have a few questions. I originally intended to keep the TCS system as it would I think provide some additional driveability in a car that only weighs 2200lbs especially considering it snows where I live (not that it will be built as a winter car... but still). Anyways I think I may have made a mistake (and a foolish one at that). In my frustration removing the rear diff I cut through the wires that go to what I now realize are probably the wheel speed sensors for the TCS. These sensors are located to read what look like hall style trigger wheels mounted on the output flanges of the diff. I was at that time thinking that the TCS must run off the VSS signal but then realized after my mistake that it could very well work differently. Also I was for some reason thinking that perhaps those sensors were for ABS, rather than TCS. Can someone clear this up for me? Do I need to find a way to reconnect wires to those sensors if I wish to retain TCS?

Thanks in advance

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the TCS and ABS are tied together. The TCS just uses the ABS pump to apply the brakes when the traction is limited so it would make sense that they use the same wheel speed sensors. The Q45 FSM is a great thing to have if you dont already have it....I think you can get it at that phatg20 site.

On a side note, I will also be doing the VH>S30 swap soon and would be very interested to see how you tackle the exhaust/steering/crossmember issues. Please keep us updated!

Thanks for the quick responses guys. If it utilizes the ABS module to apply the brakes rather than cutting throttle then I already wont be doing that. I had originally thought about attempting to transplant ABS as well, but then decided I didn't want to try to fab some way of utilizing the sensors in the hubs.

KTZED; I definitely have my work cut out for me. I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to last break (I'm at school 300 miles away from the project for most of the year). Summer starts in about a month though so I should have quite a bit more time to work on it soon enough. I have the donor car with the motor/trans about ready to come out and the Z's bay is empty awaiting cleaning and paint then swap.

If your going straight and there is wheel slip: the system shuts off the throttle by closing the secondary throttle with the throttle motor.

When taking a turn in either direction and there is wheel slip: The system puts the brakes on the wheel that is slipping.

I can't wait to see TCS in another car, that's is a hell of a project.
