Check your MAF connection first.

Did you just have a minimum wage pit monkey change your oil filter from the top?

If you bother to search and read some of the previous posts here, most of your questions will have been answered several times before.

I had the same problem a while back with my 1999 Q45. I could never figure out what was causing it, came and went. Then during the emission test required in my county I failed the gas cap test, it was leaking. I replaced the cap about a year ago now and the problem has completely disappeared!

I am still baffled by all this.

I am sorry but I don't see any correlation between the gas cap and a missfire, At most the gas cap has to do with the emissions.

What else did you do thatmight have fixed the problem?

I know that it makes no sense at all, but I put up with the problem for about 6 months trying to figure out what it could be. After I filled up with gas sometimes it went away for several weeks. The leaky gas cap theory fits the intermittent nature of the event, as sometimes when it was tightened it did not leak.

After a whole year now, and just the gas cap changed, nothing else, the problem has disappeared. Crazy crazy crazy.

Perhaps it could have been the gasoline?

Yes, the gasoline is certainly part of the problem and I am thinking maybe it is because most has 10% ethanol? I am using 93 octane.

The car has occasionally been missing, but has not thrown the Slip and TCS lights. I have been adding an octane booster and that has pretty well taken care of this problem.

Bad gas + leaky gas cap = problem?

BUMP

So any solid solutions to this problem? It seems a lot of members have similar symptoms but not similar solutions.

I have had that stumble and occasional missfire but it goes away on its own. Yesterday I got a more noticeable stumble that wouldnt go away and the TCS OFF and SLIP light on the dash. Also have a SES light which is more than likely a knock sensor code.

Idle stumble is likely a bad coil. I relaced the ABS relay on my 97 when those lights came on but I'm not sure where its located on a 2000.

Check engine codes first and see what you get.

This is EXACTLY what I'm getting right now!

I haven't cleaned the MAF, I get oil changes from the dealer, I use 93 Octane fuel, etc. I'm going to get the codes checked soon

It is most likely the coils.

I had the same issue with engine stumbling and occasion TCS light on. Replaced all coils and runs like a champ for 20,000 miles so far.

If your coils are 100k already, I suggest you replaced all of them.Save some $$$ and do it yourself. $500 for parts.

Took the Q into the shop today... Diagnosis: 2 failing coil packs.

I have a little money to burn so i decided to let my mechanic do the labor and really needed the car running ASAP so just decided to go with my local dealer for parts. Unfortunately they delivered the wrong coil packs! So guess it'll be til the morning.

Guess i should of changed ALL the coil packs with the spark plugs. Would of saved me some time and money!

I had the same problem too. I replaced two coil packs, had primary ign. code. I don't know how both are related. I will be replacing all coil packs.
