I'm contemplating purchasing a 97.5 Q45t (113K). The car is in nice shape, except that the TCS, ABS, and SLIP lights are on constantly. The seller says that they've been on for about 2.5 years (!)(sic). I have found some old topics here that spoke of having one or two of these lights on (and which suggested checking a fuse or certain relays) but I wondered if the board might have any special suggestions for diagnosis all three light being on at once.

I'm grateful for any advice you can offer, including "Don't buy that Q!"

The current owner has had it for about 60K miles, and he seems pretty car savvy. The brakes seem fine.

Thanks in advance.

Take it to autozone and have them pull the codes to see whats wrong... We can tell you about how much it would be to fix and if "its worth it"

yeah, if you want the car, take it to a dealership, tell them your buying this car and you want them to FIND things wrong with the car..... Shouldnt charge more than an hours labor, and it would be worth for you to do that.....

I certainly will. I have an indepedent shop near me that I've used for years that specializes in Nissans (They've done right by me with my current Maxima and, before that, a Stanza). I'll certainly run this Q past them for a once over before I even consider making an offer.

The current owner is mechanically inclined enough that I'm fairly sure that the problem is not, say, a fuse (which I see from old posts can trip at least one of the lights). I was hoping that this combination of lights might be some problem that was well known to the board, and easily cured.

Thanks for the sage advice. When I have more info, I'll post it...and my mechanic may recognize the problem, too, although I don't see too many Q45s in his shop, or in this area.

Sorry, by the way, for starting this thread on the "general" forum and not on the "tech" forum ...I mis-moused.

Always take it to dealer [or a least someone like T3] that works on that year model every day! Someone who has the exact year service manual on the shelf.

A 8-9 year old car will need work [even the more reliable 97+] 113k is the poimt when things start showing up [with very good previous dealer maintenance] as that is double the warranty.

Still a good idea to assume that at least $3,000 -$5,000 worth of stuff needs fixing.Shocks, knock sensors, hoses and bushings, brakes, traction throttle body control.

THINK! How does a $50K car get degraded to a $7500 car.

Only time I had all three of those lights on was when the alternator voltage regulator was out on my 94 Q. Voltage was getting as high as 18 volts! Not good. I've had just the SLIP and TCS OFF lights on for other issues but when the ABS was on with them it was the alternator.

Windows sure went up and down fast tho, hehe
