I've posted on this issue before, however I'll explain it again for anyone who didn't read it. My 94 240sx has this weird problem. Every once in a while, it won't shift between first and second gears (auto). It will sometimes stick and I can ease it until it finally does shift, but sometimes that doesn't work. If I restart the car, the problem goes away - until the next time, which could be a few hours later or a few minutes. Temperature doesn't seem to affect it. It also seems to shift hard sometimes but not all the time. I'm totally boggled. This problem occurred before and after a transmission rebuild. I replaced the TCM as advised by Nistech. I'm still having the same problem. Is this a common occurrence with S13s? The TCM was in a weird location and doesn't seem like something that would go bad or have problems. Is there any kind of bulletin from Nissan on the TCM? Could the problem be related to any other sensors or the ECU? I'm at a loss. I have to drive my car but I'm worried if I don't figure out this problem, I'm going to screw something up and need another rebuild. Any ideas? Anyone?

please forgive this simple question. have you checked the fluid level? that is very charactheristic of a low fluid level. i would also reccomend scanning it for codes(if your 94 records codes, i forget). it could be a tps problem or a vss problem.

There is one charicteristic in her failure that points to electronic failure. When she cycles the key the problem ceases temporaily for an undetermined time period. That suggests TCM, one other possiblity would be a solonoid in the trans but she had it rebuilt.

Do you know if they replaced you solonoid pack when they rebuilt it? If this problem is what you went to them for and rebuilding it was their suggestion to fix it and it didnt, I would think they have some obligation to you to figure out what is really causing it since their repair[in which you payed good money for] did not resolve the problem.

The fluid level is right on, and I checked the receipt from the transmission rebuild. It says they replaced the shift solenoid set. Now I'm really at a loss

Could it possibly be the throttle position sensor? If so, what does it take to fix/replace? Where is it exactly?

the tps can affect shift points but I had thought you replaced it?It shouldent cause this severe of a shift problem though.

I replaced the tcm...unless the tps is within the tcm, i don't think it was replaced.

I thought you had mentioned in your original thread that you had, sorry. You may very well have a defective TPS which is mounted on your throttle body between the engine and the intake. Still I really dont think that would be the problem because the charicteristics of your failure dont typically point to the TPS. Are you proficient with a volt meter and do you have one? you could easily test the TPS yourself.
