Are you trying to do a Targa Top look on your z? I believe that you'll actually lose the ridged structure of the car, i could me wrong though. I do know that when taking off the cars roof you have to some how make the wind shield frame a lot stronger, that way it won't collapse. That's a lot of body work that's kind of unnecessary and all so costly, If you wanted a convertible why not just buy the roadster. but that's just my opinion. it does look that bad though.

The first pic is of a 370z and being targa makes me think its photoshopped. The others are 350z's and could actually be targa's. But slip is right, by cutting out the roof you're losing rigidity. The roof forms 'the box' which keeps the car from twisting. By eliminating the roof you essentially ruin the box and any torssenional rigidity. To make up for that there's more bracing that needs to be added.

Those look hot!!!!

I love the way they look, but probably wouldn't do it because of having to add extra bracing. Which means more weight. I toyed around with the idea of doing this when I first got my Z as well lol.

These are all valid points. Recall the 70s and 80s 911s had Targa models which weighed more than the Coupe due to the added weight of the roll-bar. Similarly, sunroof deletion is a sought-after option in older Porsches intended for track use due to the added rigidity of the solid body (944s had sunroofs as a standard option and you had to pay extra to get one without a sunroof).

I like the look of those "Targa" Zs, but I am fairly certain they are not factory models...at least in the US.

there was a thread on here recently about the targa top z's. someone posted pics of the orange one. search the threads, maybe you can find it. if i remember correctly someone from the shop who did the orange one posted the company and address. i am thinking they did the conversion for 5-10k, and reinforced the roof. good luck.

No one was questioning if the car came out of the factory with the Targa. We know it doesn't. I believe the OP was seeing what everyone thoughts are on making his car Targa.

I personally love the way the 350 and 370 look with the Targa Top. Looks very clean. I would trade my 350 for a 370 if it came with the Targa.

I don't like the look as it seems too "cut" to me. A T-top design similar to a 300zx would seem to have better lines as it has the bar in the middle. Probably safer as well as you can reinforce it for additional safety.

oh yea i know the top pic is a 370 it just looked sweet. and i think all of them are photoshopped except the orange one.

hence in the white n silver one, the interior is still shady(kinda like a roof is still on)

hey i agree with you the T-top essentially is a targa top with reinforcements it seems more practical and probably alot easier to do, in theory(if my thoery is correct) it would mean that added extra breacing would be a good idea in either case. would anyone know who should be contacted or where to look at putting EXTRA bracing in the event someone was to do either of these upgrade.

oh btw im not into big power upgrades(exluding intake and head-back exhaust which i dont have yet) at all i like having that warrantee, plus the Z has plenty of power to get me from point A to point B and speeding tickets arent getting any cheaper IMO.

O btw i dont own a Z yet. this was one of the things i was debating on doing to either pic the roadster or the coupe. i might go with the coupe anyway just because the possibilities you couldnt get in a vert.

I wish they offered a targa instead of the 'vert Z.
