I believe its been done (and I wouldnt say "It will never be done"). I couldnt find a good pic, but I swear the red Z80 (at the top of the page) had a targa top. Maybe it was photoshopped??

Probably would be better on a coupe. The hatchback would be much weaker with the roof gone.

actually you are right...

it has not been done as of today.... and it can be done... I just don't think it would be a wise choice since you would have to brace the car in many ways and that would make it heavy and the whole geometry of the car would change.

BUT, for a show car or a cruiser, it would be pimp. Just never try anything to fun in the car again.

I see a 240 about once a week around here with it done. Its a red 89-90 fastback with a nismo style bodykit. From what iv seen it looks really good too.I havent seen it up close yet,But from far it look like a different car.Maybe I can track him down to get some pictures. You get alot of cutting off parts of cars here in NM.So many vert trucks.

I have seen a red 89-90 fastback around my town twice that had some serious custom work done to it. The owner had the entire roof removed and took out the rear windows, replaced the trunk to some extent, and built a custom bar that went from the floorboards where the back seats are met where the roof used to be and had two connecting bars that ran from that to the front window..... in a way similar to the t-top style but w/o any sort of rear windows or anything. it seemed to be a weekend car or something w/ leather interior that was never drove in rain or anything (at least since the custom work).... it was sure interesting... and I have yet to see it since that one day....

I would love to see a targa on an s14. I've always wanted to do something like that. If ever there is a project that has an s14 targa, I hope it has an rb26dett in it...

how could u say that looks fugly. maybe its just because i love t-tops. i just like t-tops bc the car retains its lines but u get the feeling of a convertable.

Targa tops are hot and all, but there's one thing: THEY LEAK WATER (as they age of course)

i agree they leak from age and that if it was a factory option it would be better because custom fabing stuff like that ussually costs more than its worth unless its on a show car.

I always thought about making my 240sx into a convert truck type thing bc my window is broken and my hatch. but all the stuff to keep the chassie strong would be a pain.

GEO's S14 is a chop. Whichever thread I saw that in also showed the red Z80 targa.

Thanks for the pics demetrius and torso.

Those hatches look hot with the roof off. It looks better on the hatch, but the coupe would be stiffer. Definitely not something you'd want to do if you drive the car hard. It would be perfect for a show car or cruiser...
