:help Has anyone ever done a targa top 240sx....i relize that it makes the rigidty lower...but i have a 90 240sx ...and i think a targa top would look good..and a new paint job. Please let me know if this is possible or if there is a conversion kit for this i doubt it. Links and/or pictures would also be helpful. And yes i relze it is gunaa cost some money! haha

It is possible. No there is no conversion kit. A custom Hot-Rod shop can usually do the job, but it'll cost a lot to make it clean and functional. There used to be a company out in Cali that would do it to any car for a set price, I htink around $1500 without paint, $2000 painted to match. I personally think putting in T-Tops would be easier, which I may try to do with a spare shell I have lying about.

It seems to be fairly easy in theory. The problem is in molding it to fit and getting weatherstripping made to fit that particular shape. Also getting the T-top itself made would be a PITA. I actually have a spare one from an old Camaro lying around, I may see if I can duplicate it......

And the cali shop would be great.... i would love to get it done for 2000 wit paint...problem is i live in Pa. If anyone has any information on t-tops add it also that would be great if i cant get the targa top.:ylsuper

You're gonna want to get at least a 6-point roll cage to get that ***** to stay straight and not flex like hell. And no, a strut tower bar isn't going to do it.

With T-tops such bracing wouldn't be needed at all. The main structural brace for the roof section runs longitudinally down the center of the car, which would be preserved in order to mount the T-tops. Removing that side material is simply some sheet metal and insulation. No one said a strut tower bar would do it, in fact anyone using logic would deem that such wouldn't change the geometry of that section of the car in an case. A six-point roll cage would be completely unnecessary.

In the case of a targa top, a two point roll bar would be all that is necessary to strengthen the chassis horizontally. If I were REALLY to get into this, I'd get some full specs on a convertible 240 and attempt to copy exactly all the bracing they did to keep it from flexing like a son-of-a-gun, then do the appropriate other things like STBs, ladder bars, bigger sway bars, a four point cage, etc, to keep it from flexing at all.

I think for ease and practicality the t-tops are going to be a better choice. I am prolly to end up following threw with the t-top. If anyone knows of anygood body shops around York County Pa, Please let me know. Thanks all!

For the record just because with T-Tops theres a center piece of roof does not necessarily mean you won't notice a difference/increase in chassis flex.

On my 96 TA with t-tops I noticed a *world* of difference once I added subframe connectors. This is on a car that is designed with t-tops in place from the factory.

You would probably want to add some sort of frame pieces underneath to increase the chassis's rigidty.

EDIT: although the TA's chassis is quite a bit different than the s13, either way some added insurance would never hurt.

I saw it done to an eclipse on ebay and it looked awesome, really gave it a supra-ish look though. I for one am for sticking to how your car is made haha or else i would end up with a car in 15 pieces

I was planning on adding some type of subframe reinforcements. I called around to some places in my home town and surrounding area and they said they couldnt do it or have never down anything like it. I need to call a hotrod or custom car shop but cant find any remotely local. If anyone knows of a shop near or even within 50 miles of Hanover, right next to Gettysburg place with the big battle, Pa let me know please. Also if anyone can help me locate a website for performance parts for a rb25det let me kno...my friend put one in his car but cant find anyparts for it. Thanks all!

-Look for some jdm importers thats one of the only ways to find performance parts for JDM ENGINES

-Use the yellow pages on yahoo for performance shops
