Tapping noise top of engine @ idle?(240sx)

Hi I just bought a 92 240sx.

At idle the upper part of the engine makes a tapping noise. Only at idle, when I give it gas it goes away.

4 cyl I think it's called a KA24DE.

ok...last time i had a tap at the top of the engine my car is a 91. i took the valve cover off and it was the guard right above the timimg chain. The guard actually busted off and was hovering on the chain... funny huh....NOT REALLY...just think if that thing would have busted up small enuff and followed the chain around. OMG....i would have been pissed....lol anyway check this out....take an hour out of yer day and pull the cover off. make sure that is not the problem ...

I also know they stopped putting the guard on ...but dont remember what year is was that they stopped....good luck.

Yeah, My timing chain guard just busted one day too and went to Nissan and they said that you don't need to replace it. Make sure you don't drive it before you check it out. Don't wanna mess anything up.
