ok I've seen this around in drifting and on random cars but never asked about it, does it serve a purpose? Or is it just to be JDM Tyte? I swear I've seen it on rally cars too. The only purpose I can think of is to keep lights from flying off in the event of a crash...

ExamplesAnd this has on the turn signals as well

It seems every S14 and S13 at this drift event has it, but not the S15 silvias?

oh nvm, they do as well..

sorry if these pics are kinda big..

It's not to prevent them from coming entirely off... It's required by 99% of all tracks because they don't want the glass to shatter and go all over the track. So you were kinda right.

yeah, just about to say that.. around hurricane season in my state, all the business owners put tape in grids on their big panoramic windows to prevent shatter as much as possible.

Kinda dumb to have glass lenses on a drift car - They don't need to be legal anyway.

yeah but explain the many stock S13's with the X's...

I would maybe do this for a day or 2 just for the heck of it, but no longer. But I have eyelids so it would look stupid to even try.

Rally cars do this cause it does strengthen and less of a chance of it BLOWING UP!

X's are mainly done for street cred, nothing more nothing less.

oh yeah, I remember I had (I Know It's Just A Game!) Rallisport Challenge and everytime you would land after a bit of air you would most likely lose one light, usually brake. So much for a clean run haha

I'm currently rocking X's on my pop-ups. I really don't know why I did it but, I love the looks I get from unsuspecting soccer moms when they see my car Muwhahahaha... And it's good for a laugh with my friends so w/e. And now I know If I ever hit something my $8 dollar sylvania bulbs will be safe!!!! Yeahz!
