Car: 91 240sx in middle of SR swap

I hear an annoying tapping noise from the engine, it happens everytime rpms goes up. If I drop rpm and hold it the noise is gone. A guy said I'm miss-firing. I dunno if he's right becuase he only heard it for a couple of seconds, and if how can I fix it myself?
