Yes, I did the search and there needs to be some info on this. I have a few questions regarding the SR20DET transmission and fluids.

1. What is the approximate fluid capacity of the SR transmission? (How many quarts/liters do I need to properly fill it?)

2. What types of fluid would you recommend? Does it need Dexon or whatever its called or other specific characteristics? ie:weight, brand, etc. In case it matters the car will be used for daily commuting and weekend abuse in high desert climate, which ranges from over 100 degress in the summer to under 20 degrees in the winter.

3. A different weight for summer/winter seasons?

4. I am interested in using Redline or Royal Purple transmission fluid. Redline seems to be easier to get ahold of. In your experience/opinion is it worth the extra money/hassle of ordering? 5. Am very close to installing a relatively new, low milage SR. ('98 w/ 35k mi) Transmission should be good, but to be safe are there any special precautions/tricks I can perform to ensure a better performing transmission?

Any info to help would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to protect my (and others') expensive investment. Because transmisssion problems suck...

Thanks Jesse. So that's a pretty good "all around" fluid?

4.5q in your transmission? Wayne told me 2.5! I have Redline MT90 75w90, but only 2.5 quarts.

WTF.

Yeah, I was thinking about ordering the Redline MT90 too. Does the Redline seem to be worth the extra money Bud? 4.5q seems more like what you would need for the whole motor.

The Hayes Reference says that for an s14 you should put in 2.4 litres. The s14 FSM states 2.5 litres. That breaks down to 2.536 & 2.642 quarts respectively. An s13 should be the same (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

How many litres did it take to make my Avatar's breasts bounce like that :D

just finished my swap a few days ago. transmission took about 3 quarts, minus the half quart that I took a shower in. So yeah I'd go with 2.5 quarts. There is a plug on the transmission that the fluid is supposed be level with. Take out that plug and have someone stick a finger in there to feel the level while you pour it in, you can make sure you won't overfill that way.
