So I have searched for this by post body, and found nothing. I know what it means, what are the benefits/losses from either. I know it affects spool, but how?

I'd guess that the tangential housing would spool faster, but not by any significant amount. I think the biggest difference would be clearance of the housing to the motor, brake MC, frame, etc.

ive read somewhere the on center is about 1-2% slower, so I guess its really a matter of what fits the application the performance difference isnt big at all.

maybe cause the air comes in at an angle for the tangential and that helps put the exhaust gas in a better position to spin the turbine. that would be my guess

i have never heard of someone having clearence issues of the MC with the on-center

if you look at the inlet port sizing on both of them, you will notice that the tangential housing has a larger port. also the angel or approach for the exhuast gas is better for the tangential. so bottom line, the tangential housing will have better spool up and better top end flow if they are the same a/r.

the only reason that someone would choose a on center over a tangential is because of clearance issues.

tat - do you have some pictures on how well your on center turbo clears the MC?

tangentials are more effiencent, flowing better with more of a striaght shot for the exhuast gases. on-centers have to go around a curve instead of striaght

Thanks guys, I just am always curious. Of course, mine in tangential but wanted to know if there was a difference that extended beyond clearance.

actually turbo2nr that pic was taken that day at ben's house when you just bought your kouki. so its only 1 summer ago, also that is a real greddy type S. i got it like 2 years ago and i had a RFL for the first year i had the car boosted. the car hated running VTA so i had to get a nice BOV that gives me the option to recirculate.
