So I was contemplating all the various ways I can pour money into my economy car and I was thinking about getting a DC strut bar, exhaust and the Tanabe coilovers to match my intake and new audio system. Maybe I shouldn't drop 4 grand on a Versa and I might change my mind but I like adding stuff to my car.

I did a search and I read what people said, but at the time only one member had any experience with them so I am hoping that a few others might have taken the plunge since.

Anyway this car is going to be my DD and I would like it last as many years as possible. What negative effects could such a mod possibly do as far as the longevity of the vehicle. Beyond cost, is there any reason why I would not want to do this to the car?

I understand that with a spring only mod that your shocks and struts will wear out, with coilovers is there anything else that needs to be replaced or modified for them to do their job? Any warranty issues with changing out the suspension beyond the fact that the suspension would no longer be covered?

Ideas? Opinions?

Response to the first section of this quote - Kiss any semblance of a smooth ride goodbye. Coilovers will help make your car handle like it's on rails. However, as a tradeoff, your ride quality will suffer. The lower you go, the more your ride will suffer.

Response to second section of this quote - Besides the obvious voiding of the suspension warranty, they could also POTENTIALLY void the warranty on your halfshafts and possibly your gearbox's differential. It's hard to tell, but I can nearly certainly guarantee you that the dealership won't want to work under that car afterwards.

Ahh damnit. No exhaust, no coilovers, maybe I will just save my money. Oh well, there could be worse things.

You could just have a custom exhaust done. just use a good brand muffler, not the cheapie round canisters.
