Is there a way to communicate to other members? Like send messages? Me and computers are not the best of friends. I can fake it, but it just doesn't always fly.

OldMako- If you would like, I could chronicle my transmission cooler install for you, complete with pictures. I don't know your level of auto experience but transmission coolers are a very simple and straight forward install. I don't know if there is a post up here about it, I would guess so somewhere. If you want me to I'll do it for ya. If there isn't one I suppose I could make it. I can also provide you with a part number for the filter I bought, but any simple in-liner will do. Lemme know.

Also, I don't think I've had any direct communication with Tanglora, but you have got balls man. Been looking around the site at the chain guide swap posts and you have nuts of steel for just jumping in on a job like that. I've been working on cars for years and have found your efforts on posting the steps for this procedure very helpful. Kudos. Thanks alot.

You bet. I have my front end ripped apart until I get my new guides next week, but I will chronicle my install starting tomorrow. I'll take pics and throw in tips on how to do it w/o the car in pieces. Glad to help!

Thanks for the tip. Seems you are also the "Minister of Teaching Newbies How To Properly Use The Site." I'll call you Minister of T.N.H.T.P.U.T.S. for short. Or we could just stick with "DOOM" which has a nice ring to it.

-BTW, nice looking Maxima. The kid I bought my Q from had a CHERRY example of that body-style for sale with an all-original 240,000 miles on it! Can't believe the lifespans of these newer vehicles. So used to my old beaters that go 100,000-150,000 and needing a teardown. God bless the Japanese. Never thought I'd say that...

Jimby,

There is a pretty decent sticky"how to" on trans coolers or two in the files. And Andy has one as well with a Ford Explorer set up.

I bought a cooler the first week I had the car, but have been waiting for better weather to do the install since I have no garage. I suppose it's time. My only question is can it be slid in place without removing the radiator? On my installation, it appears as though removal of some coolant and the top hose will allow the radiator to be tilted aft about an inch or so. This would allow the cooler to be slid in place. Looks pretty idiot proof to me, although I have been able to snatch failure from the jaws of success many times in the past.

Good luck with yours. Any info you'd like to offer up I am all ears.

Members who have revealed their email in their profiles can be reached. The board shut off preivate messaging several years ago in an attempt to populate the board with knowledge. Unfortunately, it produced a lot of flotsam posts like "You've got mail!" (as if the recipient wouldn't know ) and "Youse guys in Joisey too?"

Tangalora had ovaries of steel. We miss her deeply.

There are pictures of various G50 and FGY33 ATF cooler installs in the galleries under my board name. For OldMako, he can email me and I will send some others of my FGY33 as the headllights are out now.

I am doing this install with the radiator removed, however I think it would be very easy to do if you were to loosen the upper radiator attachment points. No need to drain coolant or remove hoses.

Is she literally deceased or figuratively?

I was planning on just stuffing mine in the gap in front of the rad, I had not contemplated putting it anywhere else because that seemed to be the accepted spot, and makes for a nice, clean and easy install. I suppose that would make me anal, or "linear" as captluigi has so eloquently pointed out. (Hey cap...you run a charter boat? USCG M25T here...but that's another thread)

But I am intrigued with the location Maxnix used to mount his. I am not as concerned about the added thermal stress to the coolant. The fluid was flowing through the rad in the first place, and given the heat transfer it will ultimately run cooler in with the ATF out of the mix. However, if there is an easy spot to stick it, AND I can take a few degrees out of the expensive aluminum box, than that strikes me as an idea worth exploring. Many thanks for the offer Brian. It may be an easier install as well. There go my 32 inch spinners and black lights but what the hell.

On a side note, I bent over this week and did the BG flush with M1. The box has 125K and it's life up till now is a big unknown to me so I took the leap. I called and queried several techs at some local shops. The info I received from the gearheads on this board helped me make an informed decision and I am one grateful mofo. (Kum-bye-yaaaaaa......big group hug..."I love ya man")

I think what I will do from here forward, is an annual fluid drain and refill. ATF is cheap, even M1 when compared to dropping the trans and sticking who knows what back into it's place. I can do a fair amount of wrenching, but trans work is way beyond my pay grade.

Seems as if we have the transmission cooler issue taken care of...

As a note to everyone we dont have PMs to try and get people to post information on the board, like this. If we had PMs all of this useful information to someone would have been hidden to the general public.
