Not trying to spam the forum with topics or anything, but I've been going down the rabbit hole of research cause I was bored at work. I'm not trying to throw down money on at Skyline right now anyway since I just finished working on my 06 STI, but I sure hope the Skyline is the next car for me

ANYWAY, I called and emailed JK Technologies after reading a Sean Morris (tyndago I assume?) post on the freshalloy site, just to see if they can or have imported a Skyline since the MotoRex fiasco.

The response:

Quick answers.

Yes we have.

Yes we have.

To save us both time: 25k plus 10k in parts for total of approximately 36kPROVIDED the car is R33, and has TWO functioning airbags, is produced1995-1998.

Thanks, JK

I'll leave it to you experts to decide how factual that is, but I was curious on your opinions.

A bloated R33... yay!

You know, if you read the stuff on top.. we already established that the only the R33 is can made to be legal, just getting a RI to do the work to make it legal is the other side of the story.

is that 36K + the car, or is it 36K for a fully street legal r33?

I assumed it was 36k + the cost of car + cost of shipping.

I know R33's can pass the requirements set by the NHTSA , but from everything I had read there wasn't any sort of OBDII system to make it kosher with the EPA. I was surprised to hear that JK has (or at least claims to) made an R33 completely street legal with an OBDII system since 2006.

I'm pretty sure if I was running that company, I'd tell my employees to just start making random crap up.

Can you miagine how many damn calls they get from people who have neither the means or the wherewithal to actually purchase a $40K+ car and register / insure it?

Hell, I'd disconnect the phones.

BTW, that is ON TOP of the price of the car.

In other words, YOU deliver the car, they'll "legalize" it.

Time to pull some overtime.

The only thing wrong I see is the years they said are legal.

1995 doesn't have passenger air bags. How do I know. I own a 1995 V-spec.

The NHTSA states that Skylines produced from Jan/96 to June/98 are eligible.

Third listing from the bottom on page 19.

JK only does compliance work, they don't sell cars. And I'm sure the 1995 thing was a typo being that 6 is right next to 5.

I mean I wasn't too concerned with the pricing, I just thought it was really interesting that they have (or claimed to have) imported R33's since 2006.

Yes as they have not figured out the OBD II yet. BTW i found some interesting things when i imported cars and one reason the US did not get the Silva front cause the head lights were not tall enough to meet standards at the time and the reason for not having the regular seat belts in the 240sx was that the S-13 chassis had to comply with airbag standards at the time or have a passive restraint system.
