I originally post on the RB forum because I was going to buy a RB20. A turn of events leaves me with my 240sx in the driveway with dieing engine probs that cost too much to get fixed. SO I just wanted to talk with someone personally on how the CA works in S13. and how cheap one is compared with the RB20.

im basically going the cheapest route BUT if the ca is even close to the price of a RB then im going RB.

anyway...gimme some email address i can email too..

heres me... [email protected]

thanks guys

I got my CA on eBay from JHot. ~$1250 shipped. I bought MKIV supra TT SMIC, SR coldpipe, KA24E MAF, HKS SSQ BOV, and K&N Air Filter and Walbro fuel pump for about $450. Install is going to cost me ~$1000. You could jsut install it yourself. I am having a custom TID and hotpipe fabbed up, so that will cost a bit more. This swap can be done on the cheap for about $2k, if you stick stock (CA SMIC) and do it yourself.

If you want an RB get an RB. Never settle, never. I own both a CA and an RB, they are both excellent motors.

:withstup But seriously, get the RB. You only buy the motor once. Get the one you want the first time. Otherwise, you'll never completely love the CA, because you'll always wonder what life would have been like with the RB. Kinda sounds like women....

The RB will be even more expesivethan the CA to mod, and you will have to mod it sooner fom what I've heard, i heard that it runs quite a high CR so pistons will be on the shopping list fairly quickly, also its a heavier engine than the CA.

Personally I wished I had removed the CA and fitted a cosworth YB.

if you have never driven a car with over 200whp then I recomend the CA, then just ease into the stupid amount of power range... and CAs will get there

Ok If i would go with the CA. What are some things I should upgrade while i have the engine out. Besides the turbo and intercooler. OR should those be the first.

Well how much money do you want to spend? If you can tell me what you've got to spend/the goal (hp wise) that you're trying to reach, we can go from there.

Pick a plan and stick with it, RBs are decent motors. Its guys on this board that me into CAs becouse they have a clue. The SR guys dont. BUT if I were to do it again Im not sure what I would do. Heres a list in order of what I would do if I were to do this again

1. late model LS1 with heads/cam and 100 shot backed with a TH350 and a big stall converter, or maybe a 6 speed. Convert the Chasis harness using a painless kit for the motor and car.

2. Built turbo KA, GT35r and lots o boost and 500 whp numbers are fun(just to piss of the SR guys)

3. Fj20det built and a tdo6/25g for fun

4.RB25det with a .63/stg3 to4e 60-1 t3/t4

As far as what to do with it out of the car, I bolted on a newer turbo, stainless 02 housing, new injectors. Changed the VC gaskets, water pump, oil pan seals, t belt, and got a FMIC.

My budget realley didnt matter at the time I bought certian things. My advice is get the motor your happy with, I wouldent waste my time with a 20 unless you get it cheap. I like the CA becouse I can buy parts for them. Research is the best advice.

Maybe, If your good with fab work and know how to barter. It can be done since thats not realley a large amount of HP. Heres some ideas.

Universal IC, Custom pipingDSM BOVs15 or pulsar GTir turbogood injectorsused Safcz32 mafThe thing is to just spend money where you need it and to take into acount shipping also, Lots of other things. I have a LOT of money in my ca...heres a ideaCA front clip with nismo ecu and fet turbo timer and spare ecu 2000.00HKS DP and rear section-300.00 new dp/used rearHKS gt2540 turbo-850.00-used-retail,2300.00HKS FMIC and BOV 640.00 -used, Shipping from Japan$

This is just a small amount of stuff, I could have gotton a lot of stuff cheaper. But I like rare stuff and things that havent been made any more. I have my mind set on somthing and get it. My best advice is to hunt around and find the best deals and not buy the first thing you come across. Also you may be forgetting about all the maitinence stuff you will have to buy.......

last time i checked, the Rb20 clip was the cheapest one you could buy for the 240sx. you would also want to consider that since not too many people have them, the rb would probably be in better condition than most. the CA and RB are very similar engines so you probably know alot more about the CA than you might think.. go with whatever engine you want most, the last thing you want to find yourself saying would be "shoulda gotten an RB".

i used to want a rb20det but had to go with the CA because of availability, i ended up loving the engine! i dont think i would ever go with anything else. who knows, maybe you will be the same way. but seriously, go with whichever one you want the most, the rb should be fairly cheap to swap in, 3k will definately have you covered.
