Well, this was one of my questions from back when I started on Nico. not very much closer to an answer, and I've been searching for years. I'll get to the point.

SR20DE in Silvia Q's. Is it safe to turbo it? I vaugely remember someone saying something about either pistons or the cylinder walls not standing up to boost pressure on the DE. is this bs?

The transverse SR has been turbo'd without major modification..it's just sticking the parts on and making provisions for oil to run & be provided.

basically I want to know, if I take parts from an DET (mani, dp, turbo, injectors (fuel pump/pressure regulator) will I be able to put these on the DE and not run into problems? if so, what all will I need to take? would I need to sleeve the cylinders, get rods & pistons also?

or would I be straight following the transverse SR turboing guide (obviously taking note of the differences.)

i think nismo created a post a while back detailing a build up of a sr20de. if i remember you need to use det pistons and rods. i'd try searching for it

You can get about 300whp out of them relatively safely, but it depends on the type of DE.

The S13 engines lend to be better due to the lower CR. You can bolt on the OEM DET equipment and it will work fine.

The only things you will need to fabricate will be the oil and coolant lines to the turbo. Everything else is good to go besides the obvious tuning work.

Edit: So if I get an S14 Silvia Q's I'd have to watch the CR?

You'd just have to keep the boost down.

awwwwwwwwwwww that's no fun ...............so, I wouldn't be able to say, beat slightly modded DET's unless I got either DET pistons or lower compression pistons designed for the DET? though I would be able to keep up?

You will make more power on less boost than a DET.

You should be able to run 10 PSI on a GOOD setup. That would net you 220 - 230whp and about 250wtq. That's plenty to punish regular DET's.

Kushens and Panther, you need to clean up your sigs. They are too large.

ahhhh I think THAT'S the problem that was mentioned before....but that can be remedied or isn't really important?

It can be remedied by bringing the block to a machine shop and having the squirters machined in - or drill the block yourself!

It's not really a big deal unless you are flogging the car for extended periods of time.
